Does anyone watch the "True Blood" tv series? Or, have you read the books that it's based off of?
I watch the tv show, but have not read the books. It sometimes reminds me of "Twilight", in that, it has vampires, a shape-shifter, a mind-reader, and of course, a love story. However, it's a lot darker and very, VERY,
VERY dirty, but....I like it.
So, are there any "True Blood" watchers out there?? If so, what do you think about it? And, who are your favorite characters??

I have not seen it, but I have heard about the show over this past year, and I am very interested in getting into it. I just need to find it online somewhere. xD
no-i dont watch anything that has to do with vampires. it gets me a bit confused...and the vampire diaries are being made into a series now

but i probably wont watch that either. Vampries are at a high right now-ever since Twilight, i've noticed, and i'm getting a bit tired of them.
I loved the first season of true blood, so much so that I refused to read the books. My reason for this is that there is so few things I like on TV and as the books are ALWAYS better, I didn't want to ruin my one good night of TV. Vampire Bill as he is called by the town folk is an awful lot like Edward, full of self loathing. The heroine of the story is a mind reading human who fo course is bringing out the human in her vampire boyfriend. Sounds familiar doesnt it. I have read somewhere that neither author knew of the others work. Quite the coincidence isnt it. The second season is a bit odd. There is a witch of some sort and she is into stiring the town up into these bizzare orgees (hmm... never bothered to learn to spell that word). Anyhow, certainly not fair for the faint of heart. Hope season three is an improvement or I might have to just buy those books.
Hi Janet!
YES, I agree, Bill is kinda like Edward! Well, except that he certaining isn't as "careful" with Sookie as Edward is with Bella. Not really "careful" at all, LOL!
But WHAT? You're not liking season 2? Awww...really?

I mean, the orgies and all the other craziness that that evil woman is spreading around is a little much, but, I really like this season a whole lot more than the last one! There's been a lot more action!
Anyway, I'm glad to know that I'm not the only watcher here and I do hope it starts to appeal to you more...

If Edward could be with Bella like Bill is with Sookie, he would be. THe big difference is that Vampires in the Twilight world have a terrible time controlling themselves. Vampires in True Blood that are mature seem to be able to keep from killing, especially the ones they care about.
I think the part that is bugging me the most is Eric and Sookie. I know that Sookie can't help but fantasize about Eric in her sleep, but she seems to be enjoying it a bit too much when she wakes up. If this was me I would feel like I was waking up from a rape nightmare. She hated him from the start, she should despise him even more for this, I would. Even it I found it pleasurable, knowing that I had no choice in the moment would feel like a violation. But what does she do last week? She goes and talks to him. Yeah, I might have went looking for him ...with a stake. Also she has had far more than a few drops of Bill's blood. I would think that would win out. THe story is suggesting that Eric's blood is strong enough to destroy Sookie's love for Bill. I know the whole thing is fantasy, but it's a stretch for me to buy that. I would also think that this had to be some kind of vampire crime. Sookie belongs to Bill. Eric is taking her away against her will. They wouldn't care about her, but I would think Bill would have rights here.
I do like the part about Jason and the Felloship of the Sun. He is such a pretty little moron. I think the Hoyt and Jessica thing is sweet and often wonder if it isn't going to end well. I also think I've never seen that many ordinary, maybe even homely looking people in a TV series. Of course this also makes my stomach turn when they are doing it in a large group. Thankfully they do give us Sam, Jason, Bill & Lafaette(the coolest gay guy HBO has ever had).
OH MY GOSH *squees*
I haven't actually seen the TrueBlood series over here in the UK at all...
Errm: but I HAVE read all the books. And I agree. Alot darker....and dirtier...*cough, cough*
I'll have to see the series to see how they compare. I only saw the advert on the TV one time, and went into a frenzy over it. It sounds like (from reading the past posts) that it's a little different, or definately earlier. I'm not sure

But the series is pretty adictive. I'm not sure as to whether she's an amazing author, but I do like the characters and the story line (I'm awaiting the next book so badly!)
Hi..
Oops ... I have seen some of the episodes of that serial but heard a lot about that serial....
