Submissions

Posted 08 Jul 08

Okay, guys. I've been a little bit more lenient on submissions than my fellow moderators I believe, but I'm going to start cracking down.

PLEASE, check for typos, spelling errors, grammar mistakes, etc.

AND PLEASE, if we tell you that something is wrong with the submission (ie. every chapter must have proper grammar), re-check your story! If you don't find anything wrong with it, don't just re-submit it because you think we made a mistake. It's possible, but highly unlikely. Send it to someone else and have them check it for you, or send it to either myself or lustandthrill (and possibly kaiwynn, I'm not sure if she's beta-ing or not). We'd be more than happy to check over your submissions and give you feed back before you submit them.

I'm sorry if I sound a little bit snippy, but I've been trying not to get annoyed by this for as long as I could.

For those of you who continue to check your submissions and submit them properly, thank you. It really does make a huge difference.

I think this is good, personally...some fanfic sites don't check grammar, punctuation, etc. at all, and it gets very annoying to read. Thank you guys for doing such an awesome job.

I actually want to thank all of you moddies for cracking down. I was reading the story the other day and it was a very nice story--good plot, nice characterization, solid foundation--but their grammar, punctuation, and spelling was horrid! I cringed at every error I saw and it greatly detracted from the very nice foundation they had going with the story. That's a very good example of good story, bad english skills. It doesn't take that much effort to get a beta, or even at tha doing a little research on your own on english websites. That's how I got into editing. I wanted to make my english papers better so my English Professor would have one less paper to cringe at. A little research goes a LONG way. And if you have a beta edit something for you and you don't understand why they changed something--ask them. I'm sure that most of them wouldn't mind explaining why they changed it. Ok, so I'm done rambling now, but thanks so much for cracking down. :) **Emma

Do what the mods say, everyone. No need to keep them over-worked ^^ I have one small question that has nothing to do with submissions. I wanted to ask if anyone else has been having problems with changing their summaries. It's been bothering me for a long while now, and I just can't seem to find the reason or solution. Is it my computer messing up, the website, or is it something else entirely? Have I been updating my summaries too much, so the option was blocked from my use? I'm sorry for asking such a random question, but I'm completely desperate. Thanks!

Could you explain what happens when you try to update your summary?

I've had the same problem. When I try to update, if I add more than like one little sentence, after I click on like add changes or whatever the button is, it shows that it's loading and the page chages but it's just like, a blank page with nothing but the background color and when I try refreshing it says like fatal error or something. I had that same problem a few weeks ago. **Emma

Hm, I'm not entirely sure. Try emailing Kaiwynn with your problem. There have been various server errors at times that I have received (as well as that fatal error message), and if it's the same problem, it should resolve itself shortly... however I'm pretty sure it's a different problem all together.

Just try emailing Kaiwynn, and if she doesn't get back to you soon, I'll try to figure something out. :)

Yeah, I sometimes get the FATAL_ERROR thing. But it's no big deal. I just quit Safari and start it up again, or try later and it works. Also, when Safari just doesn't work I use FireFox. :)

Yes, I also only get a blank page when I try to update. I guess I'm glad to know it isn't my computer, but it is a little frustrating when I try to change my summary and can't. I haven't tried using firefox though, I guess I could try that. Thanks =)

I get the FATAL ERROR thing all the time with FireFox. I just quit out, go do something else, then come back and it's usually working. I'm guessing this is happening because all of the traffic this site is getting...Anyway, whenever I update and I get the message, it usually still updates for me, despite the message.

I get 'fatal error' very often, as well, but like with all of the rest of you, this problem is usually fixed when I log in later again. But I can't update my summaries at all, no matter how many times I try.

Yeah, I get the 'fatal error' thing a lot. I actually have to close the internet window and then open another one to make it work. TA is getting a lot of people nowadays, eh? Wonder if it's the movie or the book that's attracting them, lol.

Personally, I think the attraction to TA is that anyone can join and submit (Unlike Pel's site), but the stories that are practically unreadable are filtered out (unlike fanfiction.net).

I totally agree. Some of the stories on fanfiction.net are so hard to read, I don't even bother. The stories here are of such a high quality, and it is all because of our wonderful mods!

the fatal error thing happens to me everyday! it gets me annoyed. even when i try to restart i can never get my summary fixed :| i guess there are many people it crashes the server, here, [as blonde bella pointed out] anyone can join. and many people have. so that might have to do with the FATAL ERROR thing. but im not computer wiz :P
