I headed back to Bella’s house. I sat outside her window and listened. Her heart beats were steady, she was sleeping. I climbed up the house and through the window. She looked so peaceful in her sleep. I was so envious. She could escape the world by sleeping I could never feel the glory of unconsciousness again.

I grabbed the rocking chair out of the corner of her room and sat it next to her bed. I wanted so bad to reach out and stroke her face. I knew that if I did, she would wake up and I didn’t want to disturb her peaceful slumber.

Then she started to get restless. She was rolling over and over and mumbling in her sleep. I got up and put the rocking chair back in its place. I stood next to the window, just in case I had to make a quick escape.

Bella didn’t settle down. She was getting really restless now. What was she dreaming about?

“Edward!!” she screamed. Then she sat up. Before she saw me, I was out the window. I listened to her from under the window. I heard her start to sob. I couldn’t stand it anymore, I had to leave.

When I got to the house, I went to my room and slammed the door. I sat on my couch with my head in my hands. Then, I heard the door open, but I didn’t bother to look up, I knew who it was.

“Go the hell away Emmett!” I snapped.

“What bit you in the ass?” he asked, sarcastically. I picked up the lamp that was on my desk and hurled it at him. He guessed what I was going to do and closed the door. Then, he opened it again and came into the room.

“Can’t you hear?” I asked, my tone sharp

“Why the hell are you so pissed off?” He asked me.

“Like you would care.”

“So what did she do this time to upset his royal highness?” He asked, “No, let me guess. She said Mike Newton’s name in her sleep?” He teased.

My fist moved so fast that he never had the chance to move out of the way. I got him squarely on the chin.

“I said, GO THE HELL AWAY!!”

“Wow she must have done something really bad to get you like this.” Then, he finally left.

No one bothered me after that. Why did she cry? She was obviously dreaming about me. Or was she having a nightmare? If it involved me, it was most likely a nightmare. I had caused her so much pain that she had nightmares? I was disgusted with myself.

I was pulled out of my thoughts by a knock on the door. I looked at the clock. It was 7 in the morning.

Can I come in? Alice asked.

“Go ahead.”

“Hey Edward, what’s wrong?” she asked.

“Alice, you should have seen her. She looked miserable. And last night, while I was there, she screamed my name and started to cry,” I told her feeling horrible.

“Edward, I doubt she was crying because she hates you. She is probably just feeling the same way you are, alone and empty.”

“Yeah, maybe you’re right,” I gave in.

“Of course I’m right,” she gloated. Then, she kissed my cheek and left the room.

I got up, and changed into different close. Then I went downstairs where I was met by Emmett.

“Hey Edward, are you over your temper tantrum yet?” He asked, sarcastically. I bared my teeth and growled at him.

“Guess not,” He laughed, and then he walked away.

“Alice, where are Esme and Carlisle?”

They went to hunt last night. They’ll be back later today.

“OK, I’m leaving, I’ll be back later.”

See you later!

When I got outside, I took off in the direction of Bella’s house. When I got there, her truck wasn’t there. I followed her scent south, until I was out of town. Then, I stopped dead in my tracks. She had gone to La Push. She had to go to the place that I wasn’t allowed to step foot on.

I started to walk home, sulking. I would have to wait to see her today. Then, the wind changed direction, and I was hit by a fowl scent.

Werewolves. They were close, maybe 5 miles away. I picked up speed and ran to my house. I went up to my room.

La Push, she had gone to La Push. I went over to my closet and pushed aside a rack of clothes. I pulled out a small box and opened the top. Inside was a stack of pictures. I took the pictures over and sat on my couch. On top was Bella from the summer after her accident. We were in my backyard, and she was sitting on my lap laughing. It pained me to think that she didn’t laugh like this anymore.

I looked through all of the pictures. I saw Bella’s beauty reflected in every picture, but they weren’t as good as the real thing.

Then, I got to the stack that I had taken from her. The day that she had given me the envelope for her mother, I had taken all of the pictures of me out. I looked at two of them.

One was the picture Bella had taken of me the day of her birthday, and the other was from the day after. The difference was astounding. In the first, my eyes were happy and bright, but in the second one, they were blank and sad. I couldn’t stand to look at them. If I could cry, I would have tears streaming down my face. I had taken all of her life away, and in the process I had drained myself too.

I missed her so much. I still hadn’t figured out when I would see her again.

Edward? Alice popped my thought bubble.

“Come in Alice,” I said, as I hid the box under my couch. When she walked in, she looked weary and her eyes were cautious.

“Alice, what’s wrong?” I asked, nervously. Suddenly, her expression cleared up, and her eyes looked puzzled.

“What do you mean, Edward?” She asked, her tone mirroring the look in her eyes.

“Nothing, what’s up?”

“I was wondering,” She started, “well, do you mind if I go to Port Angeles?”

“No go ahead,” I said, and then I added, “but make sure no one sees you.”

“Got it, thanks Edward,” she danced over to me, kissed my cheek and then darted to the door. She must have been awfully deprived of shopping.

I decided that I was going to see Jasper. I walked down to their room and knocked on their door.

“Come in,” Jasper told me. I opened the door and walked in.

“Hey Jasper, is Alice O.K.?”

“Yeah, she’s fine. Why?”

“Well, she just looked really concerned before.”

“She’s just concerned about you. I mean she has every right to be. Edward, you’re moping,” he told me, “You’re more introverted than you were before, and you are constantly beating yourself up.”

“I’m sorry I’m putting you guys through this. I hope it will be over soon.” I was starting to feel calmer thanks to Jasper.

“Thanks,” I said, feeling a wave of calm wash over me.

“Anytime,” he responded. Then, I left his room in a seemingly better mood.

I went to my room and put on some soothing music. It helped; my pain subsided a little bit. I decided that I was strong enough to go see Bella tonight.
