When I got to her house, my anger flared to the boiling point, Alice was there. I was going to kill her, not that Jasper would even let me get anywhere near her. Then, I caught a bit of their conversation and decided to listen in.

“Tell me everything Bella,” Alice told her.

“I tried, honestly I did. I got up, got dressed, went to work and school, and kept up my grades. I never missed a day of school. I would only answer direct questions, and I never volunteered anything,” she took a pause to clear her throat and then continued. “I felt empty, incomplete. I never said or thought his name. If I slipped, I would be pulled under the water, I would feel the pain. It felt like there was a hole in my chest. And really, it’s still there. I have a feeling that it won’t ever go away.” By the time she finished, her voice sounded extremely sad.

“Bella, you look like hell,” Alice said.

“Well, I did nearly drown today.” When her words came, I was shocked. She had nearly drowned? What had I missed in their conversation? Then, something dawned on me, Jasper knew. He always knew everything that was going on with Alice. I ran home at top speed and went to their room. I stormed into their room, grabbed Jasper by the neck and put him up against the wall.

“What the hell is Alice doing at Bella’s house?” I stormed.

“Calm down, Edward,” he pleaded. I felt a wave of calm wash over me, but this time, I resisted.

“Not this time,” I told him, still enraged. “Why the hell is she over there?”

“She had a vision,” he paused and looked away from me, “Alice saw her jump off a cliff.” His words felt like an electrical shock. I dropped my hand from his neck and took a few steps backward.

“Wh-what?” I asked. “I made her do that?” I had made her do that. She was so upset that she had wanted to kill herself. I was a monster.

“I am a monster,” I stated my thoughts.

“Edward, it’s not your fault,” he tried to soothe me. It didn’t work.

“Yes, I am. I pushed her so far that she wanted to take her life. Why?” I moaned.

“Why, what?” he asked.

“Why did I do this?” I was feeling sick. I was sick. I had taken the livelihood from the one person I tried so hard to make sure kept it.

Then, I remembered what I had told her six month ago. I told her that if she ever died, I would go to the Volturi. I couldn’t ever imagine Bella doing something like that.

“She jumped because of me,” I was still in shock. Then, the door to Alice’s room slammed against the wall and I found myself pinned to the wall by my shoulders.

“What the hell did you do?” Emmett roared at me. “Didn’t I tell you not to screw this up?!?”

“Emmett, let him go.” It was Carlisle’s firm voice that reprimanded Emmett. Emmett let go of my shoulders and I fell to the floor. The pain had taken over. Right now, I was wishing for unconsciousness more than ever.

“Edward, are you alright?” Carlisle’s voice was full of worry. I didn’t answer, I was too weak. I couldn’t let myself fall into this hole again.

“I’m fine. Just a little shaken,” I had gotten to my feet and composed myself.

“A little shaken!” Emmett screamed. “Edward, you should be over there apologizing to her now! You are so selfish. Stop wallowing in self-pity and get your ass over there!”

“Emmett, stop,” Carlisle reprimanded.

“No, this idiot has to realize that every second he sits here is another break in Bella’s heart. You told me yourself, you felt like and idiot for what you did. Well, fix it!”

“Don’t you think I know that?” I countered.

We’ll apparently, it hasn’t gotten through your thick head yet!” I turned away from him and started to leave the room.

“There you go again, walking away. You are such a coward!” I had had enough. I ran at him and punched him in the face. He fell back, jumped back on his feet and threw me across the room. I got up and just as I was about to go back at him, Carlisle grabbed me from behind. Jasper and Rosalie grabbed Emmett.

“Stop, you two!” Carlisle demanded, “You’re acting like children! How many times do I have to tell you that fighting does not solve your problems?” As Carlisle talked, Jasper was sending a wave of calm to Emmett and me. “Are you two done?” Carlisle questioned.

Both Emmett and I nodded are heads, and we were let go. Emmett grabbed Rosalie’s hand and they left the room. Esme and Carlisle were the next to leave the room.

Jasper and I stood across the room, staring at each other.

“I’m sorry you had to find out like that,” Jasper apologized. I made no response.

“Seriously Edward, I wanted to tell you but Alice wouldn’t let me.”

“Tell your wife that she better steer clear of me when she gets back. If I get my hands on her, she will regret it.” I turned my back to Jasper and left the room. I went up to my room to sulk. Jasper was right, I was moping. And what was that helping? Absolutely nothing.

If I didn’t fix this soon, she might be successful in ending her life next time. All of a sudden, a piece of paper caught my eye. It was stuck in between one of my cd’s. I went over and grabbed it. I

I immediately realized what it was. It was the letter that Bella had written for me when she was running from James. She had gone to meet him to save my life. I remembered the result of her doing that; broken ribs, a broken leg, and bruises all over her body. She had made a huge sacrifice to ensure my safety. It was time to return the favor.
