Bella’s POV

I gripped the counter to steady myself. Had he truly been here? Had he really told me he loved me? I had to have been him. He looked so real. He was exactly as I had remembered him. One way or another, I would find out.

I looked out the window. Charlie was home, time to cook dinner. My plan would have to wait until later.

Edward’s POV

After I had left Alice’s room, I went up to my own room. I had a lot to think over. First off, was the fact that, thanks to my horrible tracking skills, Victoria had ended up coming back to Forks.

How in the world could I have missed that? When I did have her trail, she always kept far enough away that I couldn’t hear her thoughts. She was quite perceptive. The only thing that we could do, had to do, was to get rid of her. It was the only way to make sure that Bella remained safe.

Then, there was the problem of her mangy do of a friend. After today, I was convinced that there was no way in hell that Jacob Black would get close to her ever again. Even if he was her friend, he was too much of a danger. He was too young to be able to control his temper.

Just thinking about the incident today made me angry. I had my hands clenched at my sides. I could feel my eyes getting visibly darker. It had been about a week since I had last hunted. It was time to go again.

Bella’s POV

I heated up the spaghetti sauce while the pasta was cooking. All the while, I was devising my plan. I had to do something that would trigger Alice to see me. This would only work if they were really truly back. Otherwise, I was the recipient of an extremely cruel joke, played on me by my very own mind.

“Dad, time for dinner,” I called.

“Okay, I’ll be there in a minute,” he called back.

I didn’t know what I was going to do, but I had dinner to think it over.

Edward’s POV

When I got back from hunting, I was extremely anxious. I didn’t like leaving Bella alone. Not with Victoria on the hunt. I had thought that when we left, all of the danger would be taken out of her life. That was extremely stupid of me. Bella was very capable of getting into life threatening situations with or without having vampires hanging around.

“EDWARD!!” I snapped to attention. It was Jasper. I rushed into his and Alice’s room.

“What, what’s wrong?” I asked. Alice was having a vision. She was holding her face in her hands and she was shaking violently. Whatever it was, it wasn’t good.

“I don’t know,” Jasper told me. “She whispered Bella’s name, then she fell into her vision.” We both stared at Alice for an immeasurable moment, until she finally came out of her vision state.

“Edward, you have to go to her now!” She yelled at me. I didn’t wait for her to tell me more, I left the house; I had to save Bella.

Bella’s POV

I had finally figured out what I was going to do. It was both extremely dangerous and reckless. I knew that Alice would see me, and if they were truly here in Forks, Edward would come for me.

As I stood in front of my window, I felt like Rose in the Titanic. The only difference was that she was trying to kill herself, and I was trying to get back the love of my life. My heart was racing a million miles a minute. I kept telling myself that this was just like jumping off the cliff. Only, that I didn’t have water to break my fall. I truly hoped that this worked. I took a deep breath and opened my window all the way. I knew that if this didn’t work, I would have a lot of explaining to do to Charlie. I sat on the sill and jumped out the window, clamping my hands over my mouth to muffle my screams.

Edward’s POV

I ran as hard as I could through the forest. I had no clue what was wrong with Bella, but judging by Alice’s reaction to her vision, it wasn’t good. I pushed myself harder. I had never run faster in my life. I would not lose the love of my life.

Then, as the forest came to an end, I saw her. She was sitting on her windowsill. Her heart was beating erratically. Then, she pushed herself off of the windowsill and started to fall.

“NO!” I screamed. I ran as hard as I could. I would not let this happen. I reached out my arms just as she was about to hit the ground, and she fell into them with a thud. I hugged her close to me as she held tight to my neck. I ran back up the side of the house and into her room. I set her on the bed, and went over to the window and shut it.

Bella sat on the edge of the bed. A look of guilt, shock, and somehow happiness was painted on her face. I sat next to her and she buried her face in my chest and started sobbing. I wrapped my arms around her and tried to soothe her.

“Shh Bella, its okay, I'm here. You’re safe now,” I told her. I rubbed her back trying to calm her down.

“Oh Edward, I’m sorry,” she told me in between sobs. I didn’t say anything. I was just glad that she was okay. Finally, after a little while, she calmed down. I lifted her head so that I could see her face. Her eyes were red and puffy from crying. Finally, I couldn’t wait any longer. I decided to ask.

“Bella, what were you doing,” I asked. She thought about it for a minute, and then a blush colored her face. She looked down as she answered me.

“I was testing to see if you were really back or not,” she told me guiltily. I was shocked. She didn’t believe that we were here, so she put her life in danger?

“You are unbelievable,” I told her. I knew that I shouldn’t have left her alone. I should have stayed here with her.

“I didn’t mean to scare you; I just wasn’t sure if you were really back.”

“And why is that,” I asked.

“Well, these past few months, my mind has been playing tricks on me. I have been hearing your voice in my head. Sometimes, I could even see your face. So, I thought that this was another illusion; a very good one at that.”

“You thought that I wasn’t really here?” I asked. I was totally bewildered. She thought that I was an illusion. My leaving had done more to her than I had originally thought.

“No, I just wasn’t sure,” she told me.

“So, you resorted to jumping out a window, just to make sure?” I asked, skeptically. “You could have waited for me to come over, or called the house. Or you could have even called Emmett or Alice. You didn’t have to put yourself in more danger.”

“I know. But at the time, it sounded like a good idea,” she told me.

“What am I going to do with you?” I sighed.

“You mean you’re staying?” she asked. Her face lit up as she said the words.

“Of course, I would never dream of leaving you again,” I told her.

“But, I thought that you didn’t love me anymore,” she said.

“I have been meaning to explain that,” I started. Now was as good a time as any to tell her how I truly felt about her. “The only reason that I left was to ensure your safety. I didn’t want to put you in any more danger. I saw what happened when Jasper attacked you, and I couldn’t bear to do that to you. I didn’t think that when we left that you would get into any trouble. I thought that you would just go on living a happy human life. Then, you get involved with werewolves. You always seem to find the worst possible creature to be around. I didn’t mean to hurt you in anyway. I tried to remove the pain from your life. Apparently, I failed miserably.”

“I missed you so much. I spent most of my time in an abandoned house curled up in a ball. Every time I closed my eyes, I would see your face. I love you more than life itself, more than anything in this world. I will love you forever and a day. That is, if you will let me.”

Bella just stared at me. She had a look of adoration in her eyes. Her heart was beating so fast, that I thought it would bust right out of her chest. She put her hand on my face and I brought my hand up and encased her in mine.

“I love you so much. I could hardly bear living without you,” she told me. “But, if you want to leave, if I am not good enough for you or not exciting enough, I’ll understand.”

“Bella, don’t think that. There is no person out there in the world that could fascinate me as much as you. You are caring and loving, and you don’t mind hanging around with a house full of vampires. You are the bravest and most beautiful girl in the world and I could never love anyone as much as I love you, and I’ll prove it.”

I took my face in between my hands. Her breath hitched in her throat. I brought my lips just an inch from hers. I breathed in her sweet scent and then crushed my lips against hers. Her lips met mine eagerly. I tangled my hands in her hair and she put her arms around my neck. I pulled myself as close as possible to her. She sighed and parted her lips just slightly. I pulled back just an inch and whispered her name. Then, I kissed her again. I reveled in the glory of finally being able to kiss her again. Finally, I pulled away and laid my forehead on hers.

“I love you Bella.”

“I love you Edward.”
