I stood up slowly, examining the ring on my third finger. Edward had his arm around my waist, and gazed down at the ring as well. I turned to look into his eyes, and saw the same expression he had had when I first had the ring on my finger.
He pulled away and held out his arm to me. I took it, and he swung me with ease onto his back. I closed my eyes as he ran through the trees, again quiet and thoughtful. I drank in his sweet scent, enjoying every minute of it. I smiled and buried my face into his shoulder.
“Bella,” Edward said softly, and I opened my eyes. We were in front of his car now, and I jumped down, almost falling. He caught my elbow, a smirk playing on his face. I scowled in return, as I saw him trying to hold back his laughter that threatened to explode. His eyes held mine for a moment, and I felt my pulse quicken and the blood rise to my cheeks.
While holding my gaze, he opened the passenger door, as he often did, and I got in, still dazzled by his mesmerizing eyes. He quickly got in the driver’s seat, and pulled away, always driving too fast, to Charlie’s. I let my mind wander, nervous about how I was going to break the news to Charlie and his reaction. I shuddered at the thought.
“Any ideas on how I’m going to break this to Charlie?” I asked him, hopeful.
He chuckled before answering me. “Bella, Charlie will be angry. You know that as well as I do. He doesn’t like me as well as Jacob, and you know that as well. Break it to him gently, and try not to get angry and frustrated. He’s only human, not to mention your father also,” He laughed once more before continuing. “I suppose you can cook one of his favorites, to soften him up, unless he notices the ring first, but you can always take it off.”
I groaned in frustration as we pulled up. We always arrived too quickly, passing everything too fast, and giving me little time to collect my thoughts.
“Ready?” He asked taking my hand and squeezing it before he got out of the car and opened my door.
“Not even a little bit.” I replied, sighing in frustration.
He chuckled, and took hold of my hand, squeezing my hand once, as I walked up to the door bracing myself for the fury that Charlie was about to unleash take place.

“Bella?” He asked from the living room watching a game on TV.
“Yeah, dad. Can I, um…talk to you for a second in the kitchen?” I asked him wary. I pulled Edward along with me to the kitchen and made him sit on my left purposely leaving our intertwined hands on the table for him to see. The ring glittered under the fluorescent light.
“What’s up Bells?” Charlie asked, a worried look on his face. He zoned in on our hands, then on the ring on my finger, the realization finally sinking in. He was turning a deep shade of purple as he continued to stare at my ring.
“Dad, Edward has asked me to marry him, and I said yes,” I stated the obvious, watching him closely as he fumed. He looked like he was about to spontaneously combust right in front of my eyes. “Dad?”
“NO!” He growled fiercely through his clenched teeth. “Isabella Marie Swan, you are too young!”
I grimaced, deep down I knew the argument he was going to put up, and even deeper down I knew he was right. “I love Edward. I will love him for eternity and longer. There’s no reason why I shouldn’t marry him now, when I know I’ll marry him later.”
“So why can’t you wait,” He deliberated something. “No. I won’t allow it.” He fumed silently never taking his eyes off the ring on my finger.
“Dad, I’m not a child anymore. When are you going to accept that?! I know you wouldn’t mind as much if it was Jacob who proposed,” I felt Edward stiffen next to me as I said those words. “I will marry him, whether you like it or not.” Though it was obvious that he most certainly didn’t want me to. I assumed that he had hoped that I would choose Jacob, but I knew that I never would.
“NO!” He looked at me now, the fury in his eyes boring into to mine. For a minute I was scared, but I wouldn’t back down.
“Dad, I will marry Edward, and I want you to be there when I do. I want you to walk me down the aisle. I want you to be happy for me. He is and always will be a part of my life. But that doesn’t mean that I want you out of it,” I softened my tone. “Dad, please. I want you and mom to be at my wedding. I need you to be there for me.”
“No Bells. You are too young.” His face softened, the color turning a slight shade of red and pink. I knew he was thinking about mom, and how they married too soon. I could see his eyes moistening.
I kept my voice firm, but felt my eyes watering at the sight of my father’s watering as well. “This is different, dad. I’ve thought a lot about this, and this is what I really want. Please, dad, I’m begging you. I never ask a lot from you, please, walk me down the aisle? Please, be happy for me…” I begged him.
He ran his hand over his face, and through his hair. “Bells, no. You’re just too young. Can’t you wait a couple of years,” He flashed a dark look at Edward. “Please, Bella. For me?”
I sighed. “Dad, no.”
He threw me a pleading look, which caused me to waiver a bit. "Cullen. GET OUT OF MY HOUSE RIGHT NOW. IF YOU'RE STILL HERE..SO HELP ME GOD..." He yelled through his tightly clenched teeth. And with that Charlie stormed out of the kitchen to his room, turning purple again, muttering non-intelligible words, and slammed the door.
I groaned, and put my head down on the table. Edward removed his hand to sooth me, rubbing small circles on my back.
“What’s he thinking Edward?” I asked softly.
“He’s furious, but he’s calming down a little. He’s thinking about calling Renee and having her try and talk some sense into you. Now he’s angry at me, for not asking him permission to ask for your hand, as I should have done. I think he's waiting for me to leave..” Edward whispered into my ear.
Edward took my hand once again, and I looked up to see Charlie come through the kitchen door. He looked sad and defeated.
“I thought I told you to leave, Cullen." Charlie seemed to spit the name out, making me flinch.
"Edward isn't going anywhere dad. He's staying right here, by my side...forever." I replied, getting angrier by the second.
"Bells. Are you sure? I-I-I just want you to be happy,” Charlie whispered looking at me, his eyes pleading with mine. “I don’t want you to make the same mistake your mother and I made by getting married too young. I don’t regret it Bells, because I have you now, but Bells, you’re still too young…”
“Dad, I’m sure. I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life,” I replied, my voice shaking a little. “I love Edward. He's my life.”
Charlie took a seat across from me and put his face in his hands, then looked up. “Bella, you know I love you. I trust you. And if this is what you really want…if you’re positive that this is what you want, then…ok. I just...I wish you would wait a few more years.”
“Thank you Dad. You have no idea how much this means to me,” I took his hand with my other one, and smiled...
"Thank you, sir. I am sorry for not asking you." Edward told Charlie, his face apologetic, but his eyes gleamed with excitement.
"Yeah, whatever," Charlie grumbled, still angry at Edward. "But, I'm not telling your mother Bella. That will be your job." He smiled at the thought.
"Mom," I groaned, and Charlie started laughing, his eyes mischievous...
