Alice ran. She could feel tears building up in her eyes. She ran as fast as she could. She had gotten another vision. Just thinking about it made her run faster.

Edward was also running, even faster than Alice, if that’s possible. When he reached the black pool in the middle of the hospital floor, he came to a sudden stop. His fists clenched up when he saw what was waiting for him.

I remember a voice saying ‘much better’, but not much else. I was still in the hospital, that’s for sure. I was locked in a room, not unlike my own room I had been just moments ago…or was it hours ago? I couldn’t tell.

I looked at what I was wearing for the first time. My hospital gown was gone, and I was now in an elegant wedding dress. It was off-white and down to my feet. If I ran my feet would probably trip over it. It was off-the-shoulder, sleeveless, tight to my chest but after my waste the material was flowing and loose. I was also wearing long white gloves that reached my elbows. I ripped them off and felt relief when I saw my ring was still there. I took it off my right and slipped it on my left.

I heard the door unlock and a man walked in. He was very tall. He walked over to me, with a bad limp. His clothes were torn and dirty. He looked down at me with cold black eyes. He was unusually tan.

He picked me up and carried me into the corridor. I gasped when I saw a huge, black pool in the middle of the hall. He carried me over to the very edge, then stopped and looked around.

And then Edward appeared at the other side of the pool. His fist clenched and he looked angry.

“Hello, Edward.” the man holding me said, in an unusual polite voice.

Edward didn’t reply. His face grew angrier by the second.

“Well Bella, you wished and wished to be like him. Eternally damned. And since he hasn’t damned you yet, other parties have decided to take it upon themselves to do so.” he continued in a quieter voice, looking at me.

“Let me introduce myself. I am Locke, keeper of the gates. And welcome to the gates, kids!” he chirped happily.

He waited for me or Edward to reply, but neither of us did so he continued.

“Haven’t heard of me? Oh dear. Well I don’t know what’s waiting for you, but it’s going to be bad.” he laughed. “People try to drag me with them, hence the state of my clothes.”

“Gates?” I whispered.

“Oh yes! The gates of hell, that is!” he said, sounding delighted that I asked, but then a serious tone came into his voice, “Hell is calling for you Bella.”

I looked over at Edward, and then I was falling. Locke dropped me without warning. I shot my hand up to reach for Edward and I called out his name. I felt very cold and I couldn’t see Locke or Edward anymore.

Then he dropped her. He hand flew up and it was the last thing visible. I could see the topaz ring I had given her, now on her left hand. I moved over to her side of the pool. I knew what I had to do.

Locke pushed me, and I could feel the force of it; he was strong. But I pushed him away, and he flew to the end of the corridor, crashing into the wall, leaving a huge dent.

“You can’t!” he shouted, but I could hear his thoughts and he didn’t know what would happen.

I took a deep breath, Bella’s intoxicating scent still in the air, and I jumped, head first, into the black water that burned my skin.
