“She’s waking up!” came Alice’s sing-song voice.

“Alice!” I exclaimed, over-joyed.

My eyes to flew open to a wonderful site; Alice smiling warmly at me. Before thinking about what I was doing I jumped up and hugged her. We hugged for awhile, and then I sat back down.

“Bella… how much do you remember?” Alice asked nervously. Her pale face was concerned, and her eyes were scrutinizing.

I didn’t know how to answer the question. Not real. This wasn’t Alice. I hesitated a moment before answering, thinking my answers through.

“I-I’m not sure…”

“Carlisle said that’s to be expected. You got a bad bang to the head, Bella.”

I suddenly took in my surroundings. I was in Edward’s room, lying on the couch.

“Alice…where’s Edward? What happened?” I asked.

No answer.

I got up and ran downstairs. I walked out the door and into the cold. I prayed all I’d have to do is choose Edward again. I was surprised when I got outside. There was blood everywhere.

“Edward?” I called out. I was a bit surprised at my own bravery, but it’s not real. Not real. The words had a calming affect on me.

I saw movement out of the corner of my eye and turned to see Jacob coming out of the woods.

“Jacob.” I smiled happily.

“Bella, I’m sorry. I really am…” he trailed off looking down.

His words made me uneasy. Not real, I repeated in my head.

“I never wanted him to die…to see you so sad…” he said, searching for words.

“I know I never got along with Edward…but I never wanted him to die,” he let the words hang there for a minute.

My heart stopped. I felt horrible pain sweeping over me. Not real. The words seemed feeble and unfamiliar now. I was surprised when I felt anger rising from the pit of my stomach. My hands balled up into fists and I gritted my teeth.

“No.” I said simply.

“Bella…” Jacob begun but stopped when he saw my face.

“No, no, no!” I shouted, looking at the air behind Jacob’s shoulder.

“I won’t do it. This is not funny. It’s sick!!” I screamed.

“My life is not a game for you to toy with! I love him! Give him back to me now!!”

Nothing happened, except Jacob becoming scared. It only caused me to become angrier.

“Give him back!” I screamed again. I was angry but I could feel tears building behind my eyes.

“Bella. They‘ll just keep you here.” Locke clear voice said in my mind.

“No!!” I screamed louder. The scene before my eyes seemed to twirl and disappear, like wisps of smoke. But it was replaced my fire. I felt it everywhere, red hot fire. Everywhere, in my legs, arms, even in my head.

I screamed in pain. I closed my eyes and screamed again. When I opened my eyes again the fire was gone. It was very cold, and my skin tingled from the sudden change of temperature. It was black again, and I fell to the floor in defeat.

I felt a hand on my shoulder and looked up to see Locke kneeling beside me.

“Can I leave?” I asked, no hope in my voice.

Locke shook his head sadly. His eyes were teary and he looked away from me.

“Bella…they’re so angry. I-I don’t know what they’ll do…” he stuttered.

I looked down and didn’t answer. The cold reached my chest, making me shiver.

“Bella, it’s going to be hard. No one ever stands up to them. They’re so mad.” he repeated.

I still couldn’t answer, my thoughts with Edward. Would they hurt him?

“They want you to finish the challenges. They’re not counting the last one, of course. Bella…I don’t know what they’ll do to you.” he whispered.

I looked up at him and he was looking down at me now.

“I don’t want them to hurt you.” he continued, obvious pain in his voice.

He hesitated, then wrapped an arm around me. I leaned into him. It didn’t real romantic at all, or awkward, it felt like he was a brother. He really was like a brother, the way he spoke to me made felt brotherly. I smiled weakly, as the two of us sat here in hell.

I was thinking of Edward, of course, and he looked like he was thinking of someone else to. I recognised the look on his face. It was the face that had been looking back at me through mirrors when Edward was gone.

“Bella…it’s been nothing so far…a warm up.” he said sadly, but with a warning tone in his voice. “Get ready…to see the full extent of hell.”

His words made me shiver.
