“Sorry for what?” I asked with a nervous chuckle. I tried to keep my voice calm, but even I could hear the fear in it.

“For what I am. For…for what I’m about to do…” he whispered, hanging his head in shame.

“And what’s that?” I asked, slowly inching towards the door. When I moved I noticed there was blood on the floor. I slowly raised my hand to my head, and felt the blood there.

He didn’t answer but instead moved a little closer to me. I wanted to close the small gap between us, but I couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling I got from him.

I watched his eyes turn wild and excited. He licked his lips menacingly and any signs of my Edward were gone. I didn’t know the man standing in front of me.

He smiled a little sadly, before lunging on top of me. He quickly pinned me down, and I lay there helpless. I saw the conflict in his eyes, but then his face became determined.

I turned to look away; I didn’t want to see him like this. Then I heard the voice, as though there was someone whispering in my ear.

“Kill him Bella.” the voice urged. It sounded like two voices speaking at once. A man’s and a woman’s. I frowned and concentrated on the voice.

“I can’t,” I muttered. And I couldn’t. Even if I was strong enough, I couldn’t bare to kill this illusion, this trick of light that looked so much like my dear Edward.

“You have to!” the voice said, louder now.

“No…I really can’t!” I said after a few moments.

“You can. It’s not real.” the voice, or rather voices said quickly.

“I won’t!” I cried.

“Judgement it coming, Bella. Kill him now.”

Edward leaned down, pressed his cold cheek to mine and inhaled deeply. The familiar gesture seemed sinister and dangerous now.

“Kill him!” the voices shouted.

“No!” I screamed, that unexplainable anger rising up in me again.

“Now Bella!” the voices shouted.

Edward leaned to my neck and pressed his lips against my throat.

“Bella you have to kill him!” the voices repeated. I recognised the voices now, it was Locke and Keira.

“I won’t!” I said my voice stronger, angrier.

“Please,” they begged. I knew they were concerned about my safety, and I was pleased that they were, I really was. But I could never hurt Edward, or any impostor that looked exactly like him… and even smelled like him.

“I will not kill him.” I said clearly.

“Then you will fail,” another voice replied. Again, it sounded like more than one person, but these voices were perfectly in time, and exactly the same pitch, it was eerie. “And you will die.”

“I won’t,” I said again, braver, but tears filled my eyes as they shouted in my head.

I felt Edward’s lips part, but I still didn’t move. I didn’t speak again although the voices continued in my head.

“I love you, Edward.” I whispered to the air.

The ‘illusion’ Edward pulled back and looked at me in confusion.

“You would rather die?” he asked, but it wasn’t his voice, it was the new voice I had heard in my head.

I didn’t answer, but I turned to stare at him hatefully.

“Fine,” said the voices through Edward. “Then you fail.”

I swallowed, not knowing what to expect. Well that’s not entirely true; I knew that there would be pain, in both the physical and emotional sense.

Everything went black, something I was far too familiar with by now. I lay there, numb, as it felt like someone lit a fire underneath me.

Then there was a small light. I looked up and saw Keira’s and Locke’s worried faces, both of them reaching for me frantically.

I reached up to them but they were out of my reach, and I was slowly sinking down.

The fire started to reach my feet, but I still reached for Locke and Keira…or anyone that could save me.

As the fire spread through my body, I could hear a smug voice in my head.

“Welcome to hell,” they laughed.

“I’m not staying here!” I tried to shout but it came out as a weak whimper.

“Still brave…” they mused.

The pain was making me delirious. For one wild movement I wondered was Edward changing me…but I dismissed the thought, Edward wouldn’t just change me without warning.

I could barely make them out, but I saw seven figures watching me. I stared at them as I slipped into unconsciousness.
