When I woke up, I started coughing uncontrollably. It felt as though my lungs were filled with water, suffocating me. I coughed again and the feeling began to fade, though no water left my lungs.

“She’s awake.” Locke said.

I opened to my eyes and saw Locke and Keira. I was sprawled on the floor, back in the torn, dirty wedding dress. I had hundreds of question, but couldn’t gather my thoughts to form a sensible one.

“Bella, you need to get up.” Keira whispered, closer to my face than I would have expected.

I sat up quickly, and Keira helped me stand. I noticed someone else here with us. A woman. She was unbelievably beautiful. She was wearing a long red dress that emphasized her figure, and a red cloak. Her black hair had a hint of red in it and was perfectly straight. She was looking at me with red eyes, but not red like Adam or Victoria, a bright red. Her face was perfect, something I had become accustomed to. With red lips, perfectly arched eyebrows…and the same sallow skin that Keira and Locke had.

“Hello…” she said in a ridiculously seductive voice. Locke seemed to melt at her words and he stared longingly at her face.

“I’m Lust. Nice to meet you Bella.” she said in the same seductive voice that reminded me of when Marilyn Monroe sung happy birthday to the president.

“One of the seven deadly sins,” Keira added in my ear. Seven deadly sins. Something clicked into place, as I realised that everything here had a meaning, it wasn’t just random. There were six challenges because six was the devil’s number, and seven people watching me to represent the seven deadly sins.

Locke started to wander over to Lust. Keira grabbed the back of his shirt, pulling him back. Lust giggled.

“You’re lucky it wasn’t Anger who came.” Keira said.

Lust cleared her throat. “Well Bella, you have to come back now.”

“No!” I shouted shocked. I would do almost anything to stay away from that fire.

Locke suddenly snapped out of his trance. “No,” he repeated.

The temptress raised an eyebrow at him and his face turned soft.

“You could have sent Gluttony or something…” Keira muttered, holding Locke’s shoulder to stop him wandering.

“You know the rules.” Lust said her voice a little angrier.

“At least let me see Edward again.” I whispered, surprising everyone.

Again Locke came out of his trance, and looked at Keira. He took her hand and they both closed their eyes and concentrated.

Edward appeared on the floor. He picked himself up growling and then he stopped. He looked at me incredulously. Within a second I felt his arms wrap around me.

Lust looked shocked. Another figure appeared beside her. The new person looked like Lust but not nearly as beautiful. She was dressed the same, but in a much darker red. Her features weren’t as soft as Lust’s, they were sharper.

“Anger!” both Locke and Keira cried in union.

A huge fiery pit suddenly erupted in the floor. Flames jumped out from it, lighting the dark room we were in, yet I still could only see black.

I clung to Edward’s chest, and he growled, but it was a defeated growl. What could he do?

They flames died down after a moment, and we could see across the pit. Anger pointed at Keira. Keira glanced apologetically at us, and then appeared at Anger’s side.

“Enough of this you foolish child!” Anger and Lust shouted in union, much more impressively in time that Locke and Keira had been.

A cold wind blew across my face, causing my hair to fly hectically out of control. Edward and I stood there, in each others arms, me in a tattered wedding dress and Edward looking as god-like as always.

No one spoke for a moment. I couldn’t help but pray and wish that this wasn’t my fate.

Edward’s face was hard as he whispered in my ear, “I love you.”

“I love you too…” I replied, leaning up to kiss him for what might be the last time.

“No.” Locke said, surprising me.

“What?” Anger hissed.

“Don’t take her!” he pleaded.

“Locke…” Keira whimpered.

“You forget your place.” Angry and Lust said at the same time.

“I won’t let you take her.” He said, moving to stand in front of me and Edward.

“And what will you do to stop us?” Anger/Lust laughed.

Locke smiled, and Anger and Lust stopped laughing.

“I’m sorry Keira. I love you…” whispered.

“Take me instead.” He said, louder. “Take me.”
