Edward picked me up and carried me. I closed my eyes again, trying to hold the tears in. When I felt leather beneath me, I opened my eyes and we were in Edward’s car. Neither of us spoke as he pulled out of the hospital car park and onto the highway.

I rested my head against the glass, looking at all the other cars. Various different people going about there day. They all seemed so happy. They were all oblivious to the fact that somewhere a girl was lying in hell, crying for a lost love. A love that was lost in my place, instead of me.

It was hard to be so sad when Edward was here beside me…alive. But it made me think of Keira again. All alone.

I barely noticed when we pulled up to the Cullen’s house. Edward came around to my door and picked me up again. I didn’t protest, and I barely moved. My pain…and guilt was immobilizing.

Edward carried me through the door and Alice was standing waiting for us.

“Is she hurt?” she asked.

“No…” Edward answered unsure. “Not physically, anyway.”

He carried me into the front room and put me down on the sofa.

“What happened?” Emmet asked. He was standing in the doorway, his face shocked and amused.

Edward didn’t answer but simply growled in response.

“Edward you have to tell us.” Alice complained.

Edward kneeled beside me and kissed me lightly on the lips. He left the room, followed closely be Alice and Emmet. I sat alone for a few minutes, and then the door opened again. I was surprised to see Rosalie walk in. She didn’t say anything, she just sat beside me. Neither of us spoke.

She hesitantly reached out and touched my arm softly. I could see how much effort it was for her to be nice to me.

“Thanks, Rosalie.” I croaked.

“Call me Rose.” she said, a bit uncomfortable. And those words meant a lot to me coming from her.

She stayed there for a few more minutes and then stood up. Edward, Emmet, Alice, Carlisle and Esme all walked into the room.

Edward smiled warmly at Rosalie, and she rolled her eyes in return. Then he came over to sit beside me, and put an arm around me.

Alice danced over and sat on the other side of me. Emmet moved to Rosalie side and they sat down on the other sofa. Carlisle and Esme remained standing.

“Bella…what are you wearing?” Alice giggled, and the mood lightened a bit.

I looked down at the torn wedding dress and couldn’t help but laugh. It wasn’t a strong laugh, or a loud one, but it was something.

“Come on, we’ll get you a change of clothes.” Alice said jumping up and pulling me up by the hand.

Edward seemed reluctant to let me go, and Alice rolled her eyes at him. She led me up the wide staircase and into her room. She quickly started opening her drawers and pulling out clothes. Eventually she picked out a pair of navy jeans and a black t-shirt.

I put them on, barely noticing the designer labels. Alice brushed my hair and tied it up for me, normally I wouldn’t have let her, but I didn’t have the energy to protest.

We went back downstairs, and as we were walking into the front room, Rosalie came storming out.

“Alice!” Rosalie complained. Alice rolled her eyes and followed her sister back up the stairs.

When I walked into the front room, alone now, I saw Edward was laughing and Emmet looked guilty. I sat down beside Edward and he wrapped his arm around me. Someone had turned on the TV to the cooking channel and Esme and Carlisle had sat down.

“So where’s Jasper?” I asked with a hoarse voice.

“Upstairs.” Emmet replied simply.

I frowned. I hope it wasn’t because of me. I could use his particular talent right about now, but I hoped I wasn’t being selfish.

Alice came back downstairs, with a pouting Rosalie behind her. Alice frowned and stared meaningfully at Edward. Edward nodded and stood up. I stood up too, feeling that I should, Edward took my hand and led me towards the stairs, but before either of us had even taken a step, the doorbell rang.

I didn’t even know they had a doorbell; it wouldn’t get much use, since Alice would just be able to tell when someone was coming.

Edward growled and stood in front of me. Esme walked over to the door, and the rest of the Cullens stood near the piano.

Esme slowing opened the door. Looking over Edward’s shoulder I saw her. Her black dress, and her hair soaked from the rain, and her normally tan face was pale. Her eyes were dead, and her face soulless.

“I’m looking for Bella Swan.” Keira said icily.

She looked over Esme’s shoulder and looked me in the eye.

She smiled slightly and then jumped across the room at me.
