Alice assured me that Charlie was in no immediate, but she did see danger for him in the future.

Sam had told Charlie that I tripped and had to go to the emergency room, which is very believable for me. And I did need a bandage, on the small cut on my face that Victoria gave me. When I came home Charlie asked me if I was ok. He was just the same Charlie, but every time I looked at him I was close to tears. I couldn’t believe I put him in danger.

Everyone close to me seems to end up in danger. After I made Charlie dinner I went upstairs to my room. Edward was sitting on my bed, and I forgot all my troubles momentarily. He was so amazing and he loved me.

“So is Victoria dead?” I asked.

“Yes, she won’t be bothering us anymore.” Edward replied, and he almost smiled. I went over and sat beside him.

“Oh Edward, I’ve caused so much trouble for everyone!” I sobbed. I felt horrid; everyone near me was in danger.

“Forks is a strange little town, isn’t it?” Edward murmured.

I looked up at his face and he was looking away, out the window. He looked thoughtful, and very beautiful.

“I could have so easily lost you Edward,” I confessed. “Just like Victoria lost James.”

Edward wrapped his arm around me. He took my chin in his hand and lifted my face up a little. Then he slowly leaned down and kissed me. It wasn’t as careful as our kisses used to be.

“If I was just a second later, she could have killed you.” Edward whispered in a pained voice. We both sat in silence for awhile.

“Don’t leave me Edward,” I whispered, and I meant more than just leaving tonight. I wanted to trust him; I wanted to be able to sleep without asking him. But I just couldn’t.

Edward laughed. “I still have to make it up to you,” he said, smiling.

Edward stayed with me that night. The next morning I asked Charlie if it was ok if I spent the day with Edward. He was reluctant, but agreed. I think he forgot I was grounded, probably because I asked him early in the morning.

When Edward went to get his car, I got dressed and had breakfast. When he knocked on the door, my heart tried to jump out of my chest. Even after all this time, I felt the same as I did last year, when he brought me to his meadow.

We drove up to the Cullen’s house, and Edward offered his hand to me when we were out of the car. I smiled and held his hand, my heart beat increasing. Edward smiled.

In the house, everyone was waiting for us, except Alice and Esme. Everyone looked worried, even Rosalie, which surprised me. I couldn’t help but be worried too. Edward put an arm around my shoulder, and I blushed because I knew everyone could hear my heart misbehaving.

“Don’t worry, Bella, we have a plan,” Carlisle explained. I started to calm down, then I realised it was probably Jaspers doing.

“Alice and Esme are watching over Charlie, and before they left Alice believes these…visitors mean us no harm. She also believes the reason they will attack Charlie is purely for food, and not a personal vendetta against you,” Carlisle said, measuring my expression carefully, worried that it was all too much for me,

“Although we can’t be certain…” Carlisle added.

Then there was a faint knock on the door, and then Esme and Alice appeared in the centre of the room.

“They’re coming here!” Alice said quickly and in such a low voice, I almost didn’t catch what she said. Edward picked me up instantly, holding me close.

“You’ll never get out in time,” Rosalie quiet came from the corner. Edward growled loudly. He put me down.

“If any of them so much as look at you, I’ll kill them!” he threatened.

The door was still open, and suddenly there were two people standing in the doorframe. They were a man and a woman. The man was tall with wavy black hair and an amused look on his face. The woman on the other hand, was petite, had short black hair, and she was very jumpy. They both had burgundy coloured eyes,

“Hello, friends!” announced the man in a booming voice.

“Welcome, Adam, Caroline.” Carlisle said looking, nodding at the man, then the woman. Everyone looked at Carlisle in surprise except Edward.

“Oh my, your family has grown!” Adam laughed, looking around at everyone. And then he looked me. Suddenly he was right beside me, kissing my hand.

“And you, my dear, are so very lovely,” Adam whispered in my ear. I was shocked. He hands were cold, like Edwards. No one spoke until Edwards’s quiet growl filled the room.

“I do not mean to frighten her, it’s just, she is so very lovely…and not just her blood.” Adam continued. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Caroline roll her eyes, like Adam was always doing this.

“Well, we have to go, things to do…” Adam said loudly.

“And I’ll see you later, my dear!” Adam continued in my ear. Edward roared, but Adam seemed oblivious.

And then they were gone, and Edward pulled me closer to him. Everyone looked as confused as I was, except Carlisle and Edward.

“What just happened??” Emmet asked.

“It looks as though, Adam has fallen in love, with Bella,” Carlisle replied.
