I fidgeted nervously with the bouquet of flowers in my hand. I wasn’t exactly comfortable, but it didn’t matter. I stared at my face in the mirror, determined to remember. It’s not that I was afraid; I was happy, and strangely calm. I just wanted to remember, so I would always know how lucky I will soon be.

Alice popped her head around the door and smiled. I returned the smile. She bounced in the door. I couldn’t help but feel self conscious. She was so perfect.

She took my hand and I asked if I was ready. I told her I was. She led me out of the small room I was in. I heard the quiet chatter of strangers, somehow related to me. There weren’t many, of course.

I stumbled a little and Alice held me steady. I sighed at the heels she had made me wear. Alice ran ahead, and the chattering relatives fell silent. Charlie appeared at my side. I smiled as I slip my arm in his. He was unhappy at my decision, as was Reneé . They both grudging agreed to be here today, through Carlisle and Alice persuasion.

I looked ahead of me, at the aisle that seemed to long. I saw my future at the end of it. We took a step, and then another. I lifted my foot and Edward face appeared in my mind. When my foot hit the carpet running up the wooden floor, his face vanished.

Another step and he appeared again, smiling and I could see some of his neck. Another step. I saw his shoulder. I took each step slowly, almost wincing when my foot hit the floor and his face disappeared.

Every step I took, I could see more of him in my mind’s eye. Halfway up the aisle and his torso had appeared. As I predicted, the journey to the end of the aisle was far too long. Not enough of Edward appeared in each step.

Eventually I was near the top. I had gotten to Edward’s shins. Charlie smiled at me as he let me go and took his seat. I walked up to the alter, my eyes closed.

I opened them, and Edward was there, fully formed. I looked up at him, and he looked back at me. His face was overcome with love, but he wasn’t smiling. Neither was I. It wasn’t as if we weren’t happy. I was just awe-struck that he was really here in front of me, promising me forever. His face told me he felt the same.

We stared deeply into each others eyes. I could more in his eyes than I will ever need to see on heaven or earth. For once, there was nothing to hide. I could see the truth burning through his eyes. I could see his sorrows, his joys and I shared them with him.

The sermon passed in a blur. When it came to it, we both said it without hesitation, never taking our eyes of each other.

“I do,”

He pressed his eyes lips to mine, and I felt a smug smile appear on them. It made me laugh. I could hear clapping and cheering. I pulled away and looked in his eyes. He raised an eyebrow.

“Forever?” I asked. The question was heavy with meaning.

He slipped his hand into mine and we both walked out of the church. Spontaneously, we both started running. We left the crowds behind us. We ran at a human pace. I don’t know why, but we just ran. We weren’t running away though. We were running to the future, that we were both eager for.
