This can’t be happening. I kept chanting that in my head. Charlie isn’t gone. Victoria didn’t just try to kill me, and Emmett did not just break the treaty. NO NO NO!! But somewhere, deep inside, I knew I wasn’t dreaming. Sam Uley, the leader of the Quileute Werewolf pack, had saved me from the fire, unfortunately, Emmett only saw him take me from my home. Sam Uley was now dead, and the Cullen’s were in danger because of me, again.

I am a horrible person. My father is dead, and the only thing I can think of is that I might lose Edward. What were we going to do?

“Bella, I am so sorry.” Emmett was babbling. “Edward’s hunting with everyone else, but it was my turn to watch you,” I felt a vague sense of anger when I realized that they were taking turns guarding me, but I couldn’t make myself care. “I honestly didn’t know that you’re Dad was still inside. And then I saw that dog take you, and I just lost control. What have I done? I broke the treaty! I’m so sorry!”

I got control of myself. Emmett should not be babbling. It was totally out of character for him. He was act now, think never personality type. “Emmett!” I yelled, snapping my fingers in front of his face to get his attention. “Calm down! This is not your fault. It’s Victoria’s. Wait! Where are we going?” I had just noticed that we were flying past the Cullen mansion and diving into the forest behind it. “We have to go get the family. Then need to know what’s going on.”

“Uh, Emmett? Edward is going to be very angry. He really freaks out whenever anyone mentions my seeing him hunting, and he’s probably already going to be angry enough over the whole treaty thing.”

“I know.” He replied grimly. “But he’s going to have to get over that eventually anyway, you are going to be one of us. Plus, he’ll be even more angry if we don’t go tell him what happened right now.

“There they are.” Emmett told me unnecessarily. I could see them now. Carlisle and Esme were digging a pit, and Edward, Alice, Rosalie, and Jasper were all bent over carcasses of what looked to be deer. I tried to turn my head away, but I couldn’t. It was like my eyes were glued to that scene. It was fascinating, in a morbid sort of way.

Carlisle was the first one to see us. He leapt out of the pit he had been digging, and ran towards us. “What are you doing Emmett? Edward is not going to be pleased when he notices that you brought Bella. What were you thinking? You know it isn’t safe for her to be here. What if Edward smelled her while he was letting his instincts govern him? He would kill her, and that would kill him!” He took a more careful glance at me. “What’s wrong?” Emmett answered for me.

“Victoria.” He hissed. “She set Bella’s house on fire, and Bella’s dad died.” Carlisle’s eyes widened. “Well, maybe it’s a good thing that you brought Bella. He’d be more angry if you left her where Victoria could get her. What?” Emmett was shaking his head. “That’s not all, Carlisle. A werewolf got there before I did. He was the one who pulled her from the fire, only he wasn’t going to let her go. He was taking her to La Push, and when she asked him to take her back, he said no. I snapped, Carlisle. I killed him.”

Carlisle sighed and put his fingers to his temples. “Oh no. We need to leave.”

“NO!” I screamed. Edward looked up immediately. What little color he had left his face as he looked at me. Apparently, he misinterpreted the look of panic on my face, and ran into the woods, leaving me, again.
