He’s gone, he’s gone, he’s gone. Those words were back. This time, I couldn’t survive. It would kill me. I could feel the darkness pulling me under. I didn’t know what was going on around me until I felt some one’s cool hand slap me gently. “Bella! Are you alright? What’s wrong? Why did Edward just take off?” I sat up slowly, trying to hold myself together. Alice was still here. Everything was going to be fine.

“He, he, saw me, and I was scared, because I was worried you were leaving, and I, I, think, that he thought, he thought that I was afraid of, of him!” I was crying by the time I finished that sentence. I was crying for Charlie, and for Sam, and for Edward’s lack of faith in me. I had thought today had been bad already, but it was nothing compared to this. It felt like my heart had been ripped out, just like it had when he left last time, only this time, I didn’t even try to fight it.

“Bella, stay with us here. Emmett went to bring Edward back, and you can explain everything. We’re going to take you home, Ok? Everything is going to be fine.” Alice’s voice was like a life preserver, holding me above the dark waters that wanted to drown me. If Alice said everything was going to be fine, then I believed her.

“Was she afraid?” I heard Alice ask Jasper. “Yes. But I don’t think she was afraid of us. What did you say, Carlisle?” I heard Carlisle sigh. “I think she heard me say we have to leave.”

“What happened?”

“We have to change her.”

“Enough! We’ll discuss everything when we get home. Alice, will you carry Bella?” Her only reply was to scoop me up in her arms and start running.

I don’t remember anything for a couple of hours. I think I fell asleep. The next thing that I remember was cold air, and Emmett and Edward entering the house. I sat up slowly. “Edward?” I asked tentatively. He shot a look at Emmett, and Edward went upstairs. “Edward, please. Talk to me. What’s wrong?” I already knew the reason, but I had to hear it from him. He looked away, so I tried again. “I don’t understand why you’re upset. All I know is that you left me again, after you promised. I think I deserve to know why!” My voice had taken on a slightly hysterical edge, but I didn’t care. “Talk to me, Edward!” Finally, he looked at me. “I didn’t want you to see that.” He started. I looked at him, urging him on with my eyes. “I didn’t want you to see the monster that I really am, and when I looked up, there you were, with fear in your eyes. It was my worst nightmare come true.” He finished quietly.

I was really angry now. “After all that we’ve been through, don’t you realize that I love you? I know that you’re a vampire, and I know what comes with that. I wasn’t afraid of you! Well, I was, but not for the reason you think. I was afraid that you were leaving.” I was still yelling.

Edward looked taken aback. “Isabella Swan! I told you I wasn’t going anywhere! How could you doubt me?” I groaned. “I know you promised, but that was before Emmett broke the treaty.” Edward’s eyes narrowed. “What?” He growled.

I sighed. That had come out wrong. “I’m not telling this story twice. I think Emmett and I should tell your entire family at once.” Edward’s eyes were slits in his head. He nodded once, curtly, and called for his family to assemble in the living room.

I took a deep breath. It was time to get what I wanted.
