How could she, an angel, ever want to be with some born from hell?

Dean is a vampire. He has been walking the earth for a few years. He has seen so much death that it causes him physical pain to think about it. Some of the death has been caused by him. That is why I sit here, beside this pit, waiting for death to visit me. I deserve to die, to die for all those people I killed. They had lives…I had a life…before…before, I had to end it; I had to ruin everything. Dean has been in love once, and once only. He doesn’t even know what happened to her.

“Dean, what are you doing?” she laughed, “That tickles!!”

Dean laughed. “That’s the point, silly!”

“Hey! That’s not fair!” she giggled.

“Dean! Time for lunch!” his mother called; he was five. She was his best friend. They had known each other since they were babies.

“Coming, Mommy!” he called. “Don’t worry, Lissy, I’ll be back.”

Ten years later, Dean and Alissa were in high school. Even at fifteen, they hadn’t changed much. They were still best friends, and they still lived next to each other. It was the first day of their sophomore year when they realized they were in love. Their other friend, Mike, was throwing a party since his parents were out of town; Alissa and Dean topped the guest list.

“Mike, I don’t know if this is a good idea… I mean, what if your parents come home early?” Alissa fretted.

“Aw Lissa, don’t worry. They told me they weren’t comin home until Tuesday, and it’s Friday. Nothing is goin to happen.”

Dean yawned; Mike and Alissa were always at odds with each other.

“Oh Mike, you absolutely have to invite Lindsie Donahue. She is soo frickin hott, dude.”

“Oh man, hell yes!”

Alissa just looked at them; they could be such losers when they wanted to be. “You two are so ridiculous! And Dean, you already have a girlfriend, you remember Kelly don’t you?”

“Ohh…..” Dean sighed, “Her… well I was thinkin I should uh… take a break. See some other people…”

“You are such a jerk, you know? Augh!” Alissa said as she walked to her ninth period class.

“Lissy… come on, I didn’t mean for it to sound like that!” Dean called down the hallway.

“Come on, dude, let’s go,” Mike said.

Later that evening, Dean was at Mike’s house helping him get ready for the party.

“Dude, I can’t believe she agreed to come! Lindsie Donahue. At my house!” Mike gushed.

“Dude, relax.”

“What, you’re not still upset about what Alissa said are you? Dude, seriously. She a girl.”

“Yeah, but still. We’ve been friends since I can’t even remember.”

“What about Kelly what’s-her-face? You don’t seem to miss her, and she was one sweet date,” Mike snickered.

“Ha ha ha, very funny Mike. The people are gonna be here soon, so I suggest you get your Snoopy pjs off and get some real pants on.”

“Don’t diss the Snoop man, Dean-o. Chicks lov’m.”

Dean sighed; Mike could be so weird sometimes. A few minutes later, the door bell rang.

“You wanna go get that, Dean? I can decide what socks to put on…” Mike yelled from upstairs. Dean opened the door. A dozen teens rushed into Mike’s house, carrying an array of food items and music.

“Let’s get this partay started!” someone yelled.

Here we go. Dean thought. About an hour later, Mike was half drunk and talking to Lindsie Donahue. Dean needed some air. All the drunken, sweaty people were giving him a headache. He went out to Mike’s backyard to sit on one of the benches. He was surprised to see Alissa sitting out there, too.

“What are you doing here? I didn’t know you were coming…?” he said.

“What? And miss my best friend’s party, with Lindsie frickin Donahue? How could I pass up the opportunity!?” she said sarcastically.

“You’re not still mad at me, are you Lissy?”

Alissa looked at him. Dean felt flickers of electricity pass through him when he looked in her eyes. He walked closer to her, and pressed his forehead to hers.

“I missed you, Lissy,” he whispered. He wrapped his arms around her.

“I missed you, too, Dean.” They kissed for the first time that night. Dean had never been happier, and neither had Alissa.

They spend four years dating. They even applied to the local college so they would be together. On their fifth anniversary, Dean went out to look for an engagement ring. That was the day that changed everything…
