By Edward’s Rose

Rain pattered down outside the glass windows of the Cullen mansion. I bit my lip and breathed on the glass, creating little patterns like I had when I was a child. I had been married for two months now. Two months of me being Bella Cullen, two months of being Edward’s wife. One week away from becoming a vampire for all eternity.

I sighed and made my way back over towards the bed. Distracted, my foot banged into a table, causing me to fall over with a resounding crash

“Ouch!” I said loudly.

“Bella, did you kill yourself again?” a deep and rumbling voice called from down the hall.

“No, Emmett…just crippled for life.”

Emmett’s bear-like laughter echoed throughout the house.

I got up and hopped over to the large bed in Edward’s room. Well, our room. I inspected the damage on my foot, and sighed as I saw my bracelet. The carving of the wolf seemed to stare at me with eyes filled with pain and accusation. Jacob. Jacob had been gone for almost a month…with no word or message. I had called La Push frantically for the entire month…dealing as best I could with Billy’s cold and cryptic answers. It was my fault he had left.

I knew he would never show it, but I could tell I was hurting Edward. It had been a bit strange, me calling the other person I’d loved during my honeymoon. Finally, Billy had told me Jake was back. That was it, though. My calls hadn’t been answered since then. My eyes filled with tears and I angrily brushed them away. I wouldn’t ever get to see Jake again…we could never return to Forks after I became a vampire. We would have already broken the treaty.

It was all planned out, too. I would have to fake my death for Charlie and Renee’s sake. They’d be devastated, but this wouldn’t come as a total shock. With my luck, death was a definite possibility. Edward was gone on a hunting trip with Carlisle, Esme and Jasper. Hunting…something that was still kind of a foreign concept to me.

“Better get used to it,” I muttered. “That’ll be you soon…I hope the poor goats will forgive me.”

I twirled Elizabeth Masen’s wedding ring on my finger and thought of my parents. Poor Renee and Charlie…it had taken them a while to adjust to the idea of their “little girl” getting married. After a very long lecture from Renee about the hazards of failed marriages, they had relented. I was mortified when Charlie sat down and had a long chat with Edward…I wasn’t even the one being drilled, and I was blushing and stuttering like an idiot. Edward had been the very picture of calm, even slightly amused.

Alice of course had planned one of the most luxurious and lavish weddings which Forks had ever seen. Too fancy for my taste…Edward had enjoyed it, though. It seemed like it was all a fairytale for me, but then, my life had been a kind of fairytale since arriving in Forks. I mean, how many people had a vampire for a husband, and a werewolf for a complicated best friend/other love? Not many. Although running with “monsters” wouldn’t normally be considered a fairytale…

I sighed and began chewing the inside of my lip. Edward had only left this morning, but it felt like a lifetime ago. I’d remembered my sullenness earlier today:

“Don’t worry, love. I’ll be back soon,” he had said in his velvety voice.

“Soon isn’t soon enough,” I grumbled.

He laughed and kissed me gently on the lips. “One day, Bella, that’s all. And if I’m gone for more then that…”

“You’ll be sorry,” I threatened, trying to sound angry. It didn’t work that well.

“One day, Isabella.” He’d kissed me again, and then I was left alone.

I was left alone with my “caretakers,” Emmett, Alice and Rosalie. I heard a chorus of devastatingly beautiful laughter float from downstairs…it sounded more like singing. I crossed my arms across my chest…living with a house full of vampires was giving me an inferiority complex.

“Gah!” I nearly jumped two feet in the air at the sound of Alice’s musical voice behind me.

“Sorry. I forgot your hearing is a little…different than ours.”

I turned around to face Alice. Her golden eyes were flickering with some emotion I couldn’t describe. Her small frame was nearly quivering with excitement.

“What’s up?” I asked mildly.

Alice slid fluidly onto the bed next to me, and took my hands in her own. “Bella…I’m like your sister, right?”

I rolled my eyes. “Yes, Alice.”

She smiled, exposing her pearly-white teeth. “Good. So…you wouldn’t mind letting me do you one tiny favor?”

I pulled away from her, instantly wary. “Alice…whatever you’re up to…”

She smiled angelically, and raised a finger to stop me. “Listen to me, Bella. Can I plan your baby shower?”

All the air whooshed out of my lungs. Was Alice joking...? “W-what?” I stammered.

Alice clapped her hands in excitement and bounced up and down. “Bella, I saw it! I’m going to be an aunt! You’re having a baby!”

And not for the first time in my life, I passed out.
