I can see the pain my words cause her,
As though there’s a knife in her heart,
And I am holding the handle.
Her eyes flood with tears,
And I ache to brush them away,
But I refuse myself the opportunity,
And utter a final lie,
Hoping one day she will remember me.
My betrayal flashes in her eyes,
An image that would haunt me for the rest of my life.
I can see her pain, twisting my still heart to ruins.
I want to reach out and tell her I’m lying,
But I can’t risk ruining her life.
And so I gather myself together,
And prepare to walk out of her life forever.
