Centuries

For centuries I have walked this earth
Felt the dark ash of destruction under my feet
Heard the cries of the dying and cursed
Seen whatever the world had to offer me.

And yet, after all this time, I know naught
Of things I thought I knew so well.
What did I know of what pain wrought,
Or of love's lonely austere?

I thought I was complete in myself
Never knowing what I was missing,
Until the heavens sent you, an angel, to me
Did I realise what I was losing.

You are everything I am not
I am Darkness, while you are Light.
First joy in centuries to me you have brought,
Sunshine in my anguished plight.

My soul wholly belongs to you,
And your name is engraved upon my heart of ice.
Our love which burns so true
Would, under any test, certainly suffice.
