Chapter 8: Dream
"Anthony!" I cried out running through the doors and hugged my brother, who was still shaking uncontrollably on the floor.
"No Aly!" My step-father called, yanking me off of Anthony’s body.
"Let me go!" I protested squirming around in his arms; he didn’t even seem for feel me kick and punch. His eyes stayed glued on his step-son.
Anthony let out an eerie growl. I tried to wrestle my way out of Edward’s clutches, but he wouldn’t budge.
"Aly, please stop." My mother begged from the floor.
"No! What’s happening to Anthony!? What’s wrong with him?! Tell me!" I screamed, tears managing to escape from my eyes, "the same thing is happening to John, tell me now!"
My mother looked at me for a long second, terror surrounding her face and eyes. She shook her head and stared deeply into my eyes, then, a second later, everything went pitch black.
The blaring music of my favorite band awoke me with a start. I gasped and felt my heart pound loudly in my chest. I looked around my quiet room, everything looking peaceful. The huge one-of-a-kind Valentine’s Day teddy-bear that Emmett, Jasper, Carlisle, and Edward had given me was smiling warmly at me, the birds were chirping happily outside my window, and the air seemed fresher than ever.
I tried to control my beating heart, I breathed in slowly, trying to clear my head. Had that been a dream, just a hallucination? It had to be a dream; there was no way something like that could have happened to my boyfriend and brother. It had to be a dream.
But, yet, it felt so real.
Had I fainted when John kissed his ex, then he brought me here to my home, and nothing after that really happened?
It felt so real. I thought to myself again.
I shrugged off the problem, surrendering it as ‘just a dream’, and got myself ready for breakfast.
Washing my face, I realized something about me today was off. I felt a pain in my arm, and slipped off my sweatshirt to see what it was. There were bandages over my arm so I pulled them off, too. I gasped when I saw what it was, the large deep cut had been treated, but it looked swollen and red. The sight of it made me sick and I re-bandaged the cut and put my sweater on again.
How had I gotten that? Was it when I fainted?
I finished doing my morning routines and went down to the kitchen where Mom and Esme were huddle around at the counter.
The instantly snapped shut when I entered the room, I eyes them suspiciously and went to the fridge to get some orange juice.
"Good morning mom and grandma." I said to the previously chatting women.
"Good morning, Aly." My mother responded.
"Sleep well, dear?" My grandmother wanted to know. I nodded and she smiled warmly.
I looked around the kitchen, waiting for the rest of our family members to bound in here; Rosalie with her modelesque features, ready to go to her job as a model, Emmett booming in with his bright smile getting ready for his job in the firehouse, Alice with her peppy attitude ready to work in the hospital with babies, Jasper with his laid-back attitude ready to work in the psychiatrist, Carlisle with his fatherly glow ready to go work in the hospital, and my Step-father, Edward, ready to go with Carlisle to the hospital as a neurosurgeon.
But I didn’t see anyone. The house was empty and quiet.
I turned around questioningly at the two mothers, "where is everybody? Anthony’s not even here." I noticed that the mentioning of Anthony made my mother wince slightly. I shrugged it off, thinking it was nothing.
"Anthony was called up for school," Esme answered my question. I nodded, it seemed likely. Anthony was always being called up to school on weekends, if it wasn’t for his sport rewards then for his school rewards. "The rest of the family left for work early, they didn’t know it, Emmett played a prank on them, you see, setting their alarms off early." Again that seemed logical, considering my uncle Emmett is always complaining about how boring this house is at times.
"Oh." I said simply and walked away with my orange juice, and waffles I had been preparing, to the living room, where I would be sitting for the next hour while my soap opera was on.
My hand was placed firmly on the steering wheel, I denied Edward the access of driving, I felt he would slow me down and we wouldn’t make it to my son in time.
I passed one-hundred and twenty miles per hour on the car and yet the road seemed to pass me slowly. The anxiety grew more and more in my chest, and the car drive was making it worse.
Alice and Jasper, I knew, were taken aback by my driving, since I never pushed the car furthest ninety, but they understood why I urged to get home.
I was relieved to see a sign that said we had only twenty more miles to drive to until we reached our town. I dug my shoe in deeper in the gas pedal, Edward concentrated on the road keeping an eye and keeping his mind open to see if there were cops around, Jasper did a pretty well job keeping my down, I would have blown to hysterics without him, and Alice kept her mind in the future, trying to see if any change is going to occur.Ten more miles, I told myself when I saw the next billboard.
"Slow down," Edward said sternly, "cop’s around the next turn."
I did as he told me, lowering to seventy five miles per hour.
I scowled, this was even slower, I would never reach Anthony with this pace.
"Don’t speed just yet." Edward said as a warning. Two long seconds later. "There, now."
He didn’t even finish his two words; I stomped on the gas.
Carlisle, Esme, Rosalie, and Emmett kept a good pace behind my own car.
"There’s fog coming, if we speed up a bit more we can escape it, unless you want to be trapped in a blanket of fog." Alice said to me.
I smiled and dug my foot deeper; they didn’t have to tell me twice to speed up.
I turned the wheel frantically when I saw our exit. I exited the freeway cautiously and sped across the long lonely street.
Our house was the only house deep in the forest; the nearest house had to be a mile away.
I sighed with relief as the big white house grew bigger and bigger.
As soon as I parked the car in our driveway I ran my way up the front staircases, dropping a flower pot in my wake, and slamming the door open.
"Anthony!" I called out.
I heard a loud thump in his room and my heart sank. I heard his door open and his footsteps coming down the hall.
"Mom?" He asked questioningly when he saw me.
He hopped down the stairs happily. I was glad to see nothing was wrong with him.
But my happiness faded when he fell to the floor gasping when he came six feet from me.
"No!" He growled.
"Edward!" I called and he appeared next to me in a hurry. I fell to the floor, grasping onto Edward’s legs. I could feel Anthony’s pain in my body, once again.
I gasped and tried to evade my mind from helping Anthony’s, I couldn’t contact him with my power. I couldn’t make his own pain disappear. The instant I stopped trying to help him, my pain stopped, but his worsened.
The rest of the family entered the house, but all were left speechless. They could only gape at the scene forming in front of them. Edward tried to pull me up and get me away from Anthony, but I couldn’t leave my son.
He growled louder, sweat trickling off his face and onto the floor, I could see him resisting to form I could see him fight with himself. But I knew there was nothing he could do anymore, he was in too deep, it was his destiny to be a werewolf, like his father.
The front door opened and Aly bounded in.
All I could hear was the muffled screams of her, trying to reach her brother, and Edward trying to pull Aly back. I was losing focus in the world around me, all I could focus on was my son, his body seconds away from turning into a big wolf, and him trying to resist.
Anthony growled, making me focus around me.
Aly continued screaming, "Aly please stop!" I begged.
"No! What’s happening to Anthony!? What’s wrong with him?! Tell me!" She screamed, "the same thing is happening to John, tell me now!"
She gave me no choice, she had to find out slowly and with time, this was too rapid.
I stared in my daughter’s eyes; fright was all I could see in them. I had to make that go away. I focused in her mind; making this seem like a dream to her, make it fade slightly so in the morning she would think it was a dream.
She collapsed in Edward’s arms.
"Take her upstairs now!" I ordered him. He nodded and vanished into thin air.
As I replayed the scene in my head, all I could do was scold myself for not telling my children sooner.
Esme sighed next to me; I knew she was thinking the same thing as me.
I searched through Aly’s mind, and my plan seemed to work, she had woken up in the morning and thought it all a dream.
But this was no dream; this was no where near a dream.
Nightmare was the best word to describe what we were going through.
