“Matisse Writing”

Later that evening, Edward drove me back home. The drive was rather quiet, a few exchanged glances here and there, but we both knew that it wasn’t necessary to carry a conversation. My hand entwined with his, resting on his thigh was much reassurance.

As his car pulled up the driveway, he was the first to exit, within half a second, at my side. He opened the door, offering his hand, which I took to help me out of the car. He wrapped his arm around my waist, my arm doing the same as we walked slowly up the door. Before I reached for the knob, he twisted me around, pulling me in for a lingering kiss.

I welcomed him willingly, my arms wrapping around his shoulders, clinging to him as he picked me up. I giggled softly, wrapping my legs around his hips as he hoisted me up. I parted my lips from his, throwing my head back as I released a laugh. I felt his lips smile against the nape of my neck, growling playfully.

“Okay, Romeo…” I grinned, rubbing his shoulders slowly. “I don’t want Charlie out here hauling ass at this.” I smiled in satisfaction as he planted a soft kiss at my neck before gently setting me back on the ground. Edward took my hand, raising it to his lips. “I’ll see you in a bit.” He whispered, planting one on the back of my hand before vanishing.

I released a soft sigh, turning the knob as I entered the main hall.

“I’m home!” I called softly, placing my bag at the hook before trotting towards the living room, where surely Charlie sat, drinking a can of his preferred beer and watching some sitcom. I walked over to him, placing a hand at his shoulder before planting one on his cheek.

He replied with a grunt, his eyes still glued onto the set. I knew he hadn’t been able to get over the fact that I was still with Edward. I knew it killed him to see me even close to him every day. The face he gave him—it was so unnerving.

I stood there, silent, hoping that actual words could be heard… Boy was I disappointed. I turned around defeated, half running up the steps, careful to not slip and fall on my ass again. When I reached the landing, I turned towards the bathroom, having the urge to brush my teeth, [Edward, of course]. I entered through the wooden door, turning slightly to flick open the light.

I turned to face the sink, looking up for the first time at the mirror to look at my reflection. Instead of viewing upon my clear reflection, the mirror had crimson-colored words written over it. The words read:

HE WON'T BE YOUR PRECIOUS EDWARD FOREVER.

I gasped loudly, first clutching onto the sink as my support system. I opened my lips, wanting to let out a cry but it wasn’t necessary, Edward was already at my door, knocking softly, but loud enough to ear.

“Bella.” He called, snapping me back into reality. I reached for the knob, twisting it and opening it wide for Edward to enter. He grabbed my arm gently, pulling me towards him. His eyes snapped onto the mirror, an intense growl rising at the core of his throat before he ushered me out of the bathroom and into my bedroom.

My eyes were at a daze, blinking slightly. I wasn’t able to register much of anything, my mind still fixed onto that message. Who—What? I shook my head slowly, barely realizing that I was now sitting on my bed, Edward’s icy fingers running through the natural knots in my hair.

“Come on, Bella, breath.” He soothed his chin resting on the top of my head. I drew in a deep breath, relaxing slightly, yet feeling Goosebumps travel down my arm.

“That… is so weird.” I let out in a whisper, raising my head to eye him. “Was it her?” I asked, meaning Victoria.Edward looked to her side, shrugging slightly.

“I’m not sure… But who else would dare do it?” he asked me softly, tucking back a hair lightly.

“From what it seems…” I began softly, blinking away any nervous tears. “Charlie hasn’t seen it.” I turned my head to the side, releasing a light sigh, “And, the… paint looks fresh.”

“That wasn’t paint, Bella.” Edward confirmed, standing up slowly to pace the room. His eyes were narrowed, stern, as though in much concentration as he took every step. “That was Blood. Deer, to be exact.”

I knitted my eyebrows together, feeling my stomach churn at the fact. Nausea had seeped up my throat, giving me a wanting-to-gag feeling. I placed my hands at my abdomen, lowering my head to eye at my lap, thinking myself.

“I don’t want anything to happen to you.” I whispered softly, shutting my eyes as I took in even breaths to calm down the aching.I felt him kneeling down in front of me, taking my hands as he did before that evening.

“Nothing will happen to me. Don’t worry about me. “He leaned forward to plant a soft kiss on my forehead, a smile curled from my lips.

He stilled, his head snapping towards the window in half a second. He released a loud growl as he stood up; facing the figure of what was another vampire in the window.

I joined at where he eyed, my own eyes widening in horror as I looked upon the familiar figure of Victoria. Her eyes were narrowed onto the both of us, her hands resting at her slender hips. The wind that flew in from the window had a carefree effect on her flaming-red curls.

“Whoa, now…” she said in a velvety voice towards Edward, who was ready to pounce at her. She raised a finger, shaking it as a “No, No.” gesture. “I came to make a proposition.” She smiled as she took a step, which taunted Edward who I had to grab onto his arm.

“This proposition will be to your best interests, I am sure.” She eyed at me, a grin curling through her lips. “.. I am sure.”
