Ally’s POV:

“Ally, Ally, move, let me see it,” he said softly. I looked up and moved slightly away but kept my hand on Jake. Please, God let him be ok…

I bit on the nub of my fingernail, shaking with anxiousness. I just kept staring at the white door of my bedroom, pacing back and forth, praying that it would open soon.

Sam, Embry, Quil, Jared, and Paul were all in there, doing God knows what. They had all helped Jake inside, and then kicked me out of my own room so they could check on him and see what was wrong with his leg and how it happened.

“Ally, calm down and sit, he’ll be fine,” Emily soothed me, putting her arm around my shoulders. I sat down next to her on the couch and crossed my legs under me. The tears had finally stopped coming out of my eyes, but I was still shivering.

“What could have possibly happened? Why would he change into his wolf form anyway? He wasn’t even on patrol,” I whispered, more to myself than anyone else.

“We’ll find out in a moment, you just have to relax. Stress isn’t good for you right now.”

I tried, I really did. I tried to relax, but the whole ‘relaxing’ thing just didn’t jive with the whole Jake being hurt thing. Suddenly, the door opened and the boys filed out in silence. Emily and I both stood up.

“What’s wrong? Is he going to be ok?” I asked frantically. Sam walked up to me and gave me a calm look that only scared me more.

“Don’t worry, Ally, he’ll be fine. He…can’t change back right now, the bone is broken and it’s too painful for him,” Sam said. Tears started to come back and I chocked back sobs. I ran past all of them and into my room, where the huge russet colored wolf sat in the middle of the bed.

“Jake,” I whimpered, getting onto the bed. Wrapping my arms around his neck, I buried my face in his thick fur. He made small whining noises and I traced my thumb behind his ears.

“We bandaged his leg, but it’s going to take quite a few hours to heal. He should be fine by tomorrow,” Embry said softly, poking his head in through the door. I sat up and wiped my tears away again and sniffled.

“How did this happen?” I asked. He came in and sat down next to me.

“We shifted and read his thoughts. Apparently, there was a huge grizzly somewhere near here, and Jake heard a camper screaming, so he shifted and ran off to go save it like the hero he is.” Embry rolled his eyes, and Jake gave a low growl. “Of course, the grizzly was a bit tougher than ol’ wolfie here, so he got a good swipe at his leg. He‘ll be perfectly fine in no time. And the camper is fine too,”

“So…I’m going to have wolf dander all over my sheets, huh?” I laughed a little. Embry laughed and Jake did one of his wolf grins that I loved. “Does it hurt a lot, babe?” I asked him.

The wolf shook his head and I swallowed. He was most likely lying to make me feel better, but what could I do? I did not have the power to read his mind like the others did. I got up and brushed my hands down my clothes. Looking into the living room, I saw that everyone had left except Emily.

“Is he doing ok?” She asked. I nodded and gave her a hug.

“Thanks, Em.”

“No problem. I’d better get home, but you have to call me later, ok?” Emily said. I nodded and watched as she left.

“I’d better get some food ready,” I murmured to myself. Of course, the werewolves had heard me, so Embry came out of the room, grinning and the wolf limped out behind him.

“Of course you come out now,” I muttered. “You’d get up off your death bed for food, wouldn’t you?” I laughed. He’ll be fine, I reminded myself.

After making some beef stew, I gave some to Embry, who then left, muttering something about a game on TV. I sat on the floor next to Jake and watched as he ate. I hadn’t spent too much time with the wolf Jake because there hadn’t really been a great need to.

“Why do you feel the need to save everyone?” I asked him quietly, stroking his long, soft fur. He looked up and blinked. “What would I do if I lost you?”

Jake gave out a low bark and I rolled my eyes. I could predict what he was thinking now.

“Let me guess, you’re thinking that I’m in bigger danger than you?” I asked. The wolf nodded his head and I laughed.

“Fine, whatever. Just promise me that you won’t go running off to attack grizzlies unless your brothers are there with you,” I reprimanded him. He looked back down and resumed his eating. I sighed, but smiled as I got up to get him some water.
