Dan’s POV:

Anxiety pulsed through me as I held Jane’s delicate hand in mine, and awaited the wolf to answer the door, because I could smell him coming—it was a familiar twinge to my nose as he came closer to the door. Bella and Edward stood silently behind us. Even though the La Push territory was now open to us, it was still awkward being here, amongst our former enemies.

How would Jane react when she saw my sister? How would Ally react to seeing Jane? I didn’t know if Jane was scared of meeting the wolves or not, since I had told her all about them on the way here.

It was a long flight, and while Edward and Bella were comfortably talking in the seats in front of ours, Jane and I were… otherwise preoccupied.

“Why not?!” She asked for the millionth time.

“Because,” I whispered back, unable to resist kissing her hand lightly. “I said so.”

“Oh, that’s such a great argument, Dan. Really, I’m amazed,” she threw back sarcastically, pulling her hand out of mine.

“It’s not allowed….”

“You should consider breaking the rules sometimes, Mr. Cullen—otherwise you may become boring,” she glared at me and crossed her arms, closing her eyes and laying her head against the seat.

First class has never been quite this exciting before.

We were arguing over the fact that she wanted me to come with her to the bathroom to ‘make out’, and I was saying no. Not because I didn’t want to (God, did I want to), but because it was wrong.

“Jane,” I muttered, running my fingers along her arm, enjoying it when Goosebumps arose.

“What?” She asked, her mouth twitching at the corners in a hidden smile.

“It’s inappropriate, don’t you think?”

“No, everyone does it,” she opened her eyes to look at me with an innocent pleading look.

“Don’t give me that look, Ms. Schuler; you know I can’t resist it!” I sighed as she winked.

“Come now, I’ll make it worth your while,” she whispered seductively, pulling her face close to my own.

“I don’t know if I can handle that,” I bit down on my lip—a very human gesture.

Edward suddenly burst out laughing in the seat in front of mine and Bella giggled also. I groaned and rolled my eyes.

“Very mature, brother,” I said through gritted teeth.

“I am at that,” he shot back without turning.

“I was referring to th e tightly closed place, and with my strength, it might be difficult.”

“That was what always stopped me,” he muttered, linking his fingers through his wife’s.

“Go ahead, we’ll cover for you,” Bella laughed, looking back at Jane. They shared a feminine smile and suddenly Jane was standing up, pulling me along.

What had I gotten myself into?

Although, I must admit it was rather a good idea. Those stolen minutes in the small bathroom were enough to fuel me to oblivion.

But now, as Jacob answered the door, all thoughts of bliss escaped me.

“You’re early,” he said simply, opening the door to allow us into his home.

“Really early.”

“Yes, we weren’t going to come until tonight, but our flight plans changed,” I said softly.

Just then, a squeal of “Dan!” came from across the room and I grinned as my one-and-only sister came running from the kitchen.

“Surprise,” Edward laughed as she came and gave us fierce hugs and kisses.

“Hell yeah it’s a surprise!” Ally was practically shaking with excitement.

“Language!” I reminded her playfully.

I couldn’t help it—it was a habit. Just because she was about to be a mother doesn’t mean I stopped being her older brother.

She simply laughed and let go of me, looking over at Jane, who was simply standing back politely, smiling.

“Ally, this is—“

“You must be Jane!” She started, interrupting me and walking over to give Jane a hug. Jane looked tense for about a second before she hugged Ally back.

“I must be,” Jane replied, laughing. “And you must be Allison.”

“Yup,” she nodded. “But please, call me Ally.”

“And I’m guessing you’re Jacob?”

“It’s nice to meet you,” he smiled slightly.

“You too,” Jane said softly.

“You’re even prettier than your picture,” Ally said, putting a hand on Jane’s shoulder.

“Um, what?” Jane asked, puzzled.

“She’s talking about the picture I took of you in Art, remember? I showed it to her,” I told her. “Ally, how are my twin nieces or nephews doing?”

I put a hand lightly on her stomach, and smiled. I couldn’t wait to be an uncle. It was going to be so cool.

“Yes, how are they?” Bella came closer, also putting her hand there.

“Mmm, good. I actually find out tomorrow if they’re nieces or nephews,” she bit her lip.

“I know—that’s why we came,” I told her. “We wanted to be there for you.”

“Aw, thanks so much Dan.” She kissed my cheek. “You’re still the best brother in the world.”

“Oh, don’t worry, that won’t ever change,” I chuckled.

“Well, I have to go to work,” Jake said, giving me a pat on the shoulder. “But you guys enjoy yourselves while I’m gone. Don’t party too much, or else I’ll be making a cop visit to my own house.”

“Sweetie, we need bread and honey,” Ally told him, giving him a kiss goodbye.

“Right, got it,” he stepped towards the door and grinned. “Love you.”

“Ally, I really like your t-shirt,” Jane said after the door closed.

I looked at my sisters t-shirt and shook my head, smiling. Ally was famous for wearing t-shirts with printed messages that were…very outspoken. I still had no clue where she found most of her shirts, since they were all original and exactly something she would wear.

The current one said ‘If you hadn’t noticed, I’m better than you’.

“Thank you! I’m very proud of my badass t-shirts,” Ally laughed. “Oh, that reminds me, Dan! I got an awesome one just yesterday, and I think you’ll appreciate it.”

“Oh really? Is it not arrogant or profane like your others?” I joked.

She shrugged before running to her room and coming back with a hot pink shirt with white letters on it.

“See for yourself,” she held it up.

My brother is a superhero

We all laughed and I felt tugs at my heart. I was proud to be the older brother of Allison Brittany Black.

“I like the back so much,” she laughed, turning it around.

Be jealous
