Alice’s POV:

I walked into my art class and grinned brightly. YES! Jane Shuler was sitting in the desk that was next to my own. Oh, this is amazing.

She was staring at the papers in front of her and now that I was actually looking at her in real life--instead of just a vision---she looked like a perfect match for my brother. Daniel deserved the vision that I saw…just getting him to agree would be the hard part. After all, I had to keep my $500 safe from Emmett.

“Hi.” I said, sitting down on the black stool next to hers. She looked up; it was obvious that she was startled.

“Hey.” She said. Hmm, her blood smelled…different, as if something else swirled through her veins alongside it. I shrugged it off and looked at her more closely. Her skin was a creamy color, the kind that you can only get if you lived in a sunny place. I had seen the vision of Edward talking to her in their gym class and so I had all the information I needed about her.

“So it looks like we’ll be art partners from now on.” I said happily. She nodded and was about to say something when the teacher started class.

“Class, today we have a new student. This is Jane Shuler from California. Maybe you would like to introduce yourself, Ms. Shuler?” Mrs. Cancade asked my neighbor. Jane blushed a little and stood up; although she looked a bit nervous, she said her speech as if she had rehearsed it. Oh my gosh, she reminded me so much of Bella when I first met her.

“Uh…I’m Jane Shuler. I moved here from San Francisco with my dad, Dr. Shuler. I’m enjoying Augusta so far and I really like this school. I used to be in art back home too, so I’m looking forward to this class.” She related, sitting back down and making me want to slap all the kids just staring at her.

Did they have no decency? I could hear the gears turning in their head, ready to start gossiping about her. Although I could not hear their thoughts, I could only imagine what they were thinking.

“I’m Alice Cullen, it’s great to meet you.” I said, focusing my attention back on her.

She smiled and replied, “It’s great to meet you too.”

The rest of the art class had been devoted to painting. Ah, how I enjoyed art. Not as much as shopping or driving, but all the same, it was a fairly enjoyable past time. Mrs. Cancade was the one teacher who I liked at this tiny school because her class was very free. She allowed us to paint whatever we wished. That day, I decided to paint a ballroom.

Oh, it was no ordinary ballroom. It was the ballroom that Jasper had taken me for my first ball, my first dance. Just me and him, lights strewn everywhere, and romantic music playing. It was one of the best nights of my existence.

I couldn’t help but look over at Jane’s painting also and was quite surprised. Her painting was exquisite and beautiful. Bold and unique with excellent use of color and brush stroke. The only artist I had seen better was Esme, and she usually painted alone. It was nice to see someone so brilliant in action.

She saw me looking and smiled again, and that’s when I noticed how very green her eyes were. They were the color that looked like my newest Coach clutch purse. Emerald green. It was gorgeous.

“I love your painting.” She said, looking down at my canvas. “Is that your boyfriend?” She asked, pointing at Jasper as he held me in his arms.

“Yes…Jasper Hale. I like your painting better, how did you learn to be such a good artist?” I said, letting the envy show in my voice.

“I don’t know…My mom is an artist too, so I guess I picked it up from her.” She laughed. “Hey, you said your last name was Cullen, right?”

“Yes.” I replied, watching as she put her brush down to examine her completed art. It was so beautiful and mysterious; so interesting and sharp. It made me like Jane even more.

“Do you know a Daniel Cullen?” She asked softly. I looked back to her and saw goosebumps raise on her arms as she said his name and I inwardly cheered.

“Yes, actually I know him very well. He’s my brother.” I replied simply. She nodded as if that were expected.

“So…how many siblings do you have?”

“Three. Emmett, Edward, and Daniel. Then, I also live with Jasper, Rosalie, and Bella Hale. We’re all foster children.”

“Wow, you’re parents must be very…patient.” She said. I giggled; more patient than you know, dear.

“Yes, very patient and loving.”

“So, you’re Edward’s and Daniel’s sister, huh?” She asked again.

“Yes, have you met them already?”

“Yeah, I have; I’m not surprised you all are siblings. I don’t know if I made a very good impression on Daniel, though…” She said, looking away and blushing a bit again. I fought to hide my grin.

“Why, I’m sure you did. Daniel isn’t very judgmental at all; in fact, he’s almost the opposite.”

“Well…I don’t know.” She blushed even harder, and I was reminded of Bella again. “The poor guy had to see me falling apart in a janitor’s closet. I don’t think first impressions can get any worse.”

“That’s not nearly as bad as it seems. He’s pretty understanding.”

“Yeah, I kind of got that from him. So…what do you like to do besides paint beautifully?”

“Really, your painting puts mine to utter humiliation. Hmmm, I like to shop, sometimes dance, drive around, and also play some baseball.” Whoops…was that telling too much?

“Cool. So how did you learn to paint?”

“Interestingly enough, my mother taught me also. Esme is greatly accomplished in the form of painting. I love yours. I want to hang it up in my room at home!” I sighed, looking at her masterpiece.

“This?” She scoffed, waving her hand in dismissal. “No way, I like yours much better.”

“Both of yours look exceptionally brilliant.” A spirited voice came from behind us. Jane gave a start but I already knew Mrs. Cancade was coming to check on our paintings.

“I love the feather falling down, Ms. Shuler. And the detail of the lights, Ms. Cullen. You both receive A’s for your painting session today.” She said, retreating back to her desk.

I looked over to see Jane smiling slightly and still staring at my portrait. I had a brilliant idea.

“Jane, I propose a compromise.” I said. She looked up and raised an eyebrow. “We’ll trade. You take mine home and I’ll take yours!”

“Great idea, Alice.” She replied, grinning. We both took the papers off the canvas and rolled them up, putting them into our backpacks. While we were cleaning our workstation, I watched as a boy stared at her from across the room. She was oblivious, but I was not.

“Jane…” I said, receiving her attention. “I was wondering…”

“Yeah?” She asked.

“Have any boys in Augusta caught your eye yet?”

She blushed again, and seemed a bit more preoccupied with cleaning her brushes.

“Well…I don’t know. One guy has, but I’m not looking for anything right now. I just broke off a 4 month relationship, and I don’t mind staying single after that.”

Here was the juicy part…the part that Edward didn’t get enough information about. Suddenly, the bell rang, causing me to scowl. Horrible timing for school to be over. Wow, it was the first time I had ever thought that idea.

“Jane? Would you like to get some coffee with me after school today?” I smiled hopefully.

“Um…I don’t know, I should go home and help my dad unpack. But I guess a cup of coffee would do me some good also.” She said, pulling on the hood of her jacket. We both stepped out of the fine arts building and into the light rain.

“Oh come on, you can always unpack later. I want some girl talk time with you.” I said, walking to the parking lot with her. I looked around and saw my family standing by our cars, waiting for me. The Volvo that Edward drove and the jeep wrangler that Emmett drove. Since our additions we had to bring two cars to school now.

“You know, I think some girl talk time is just what I need. Oh, your family is waiting for you.” She said, looking down, hiding her face. I saw Dan’s eyes widen a bit and fought to keep a composed face.

“Where’s your car?” I asked, and she pointed to a Blue Volkswagen Phaeton. It was a good car; I knew it had a good handle on speed turns.

“Is that Bella?” She asked, and I turned seeing Bella come over smiling brightly. I saw the rest of the family getting into the car and Jasper gave me a wink before getting in Emmett’s jeep.

“Hi Bella, this is Jane. Jane, meet my best friend, Bella.” I gestured.

“Hey, what’s up?” Jane asked, and Bella waved at her.

“Hi, nothing really. What are you two up to?” Bella asked.

“Well, Jane and I were going to the coffee shop to have some girl talk. Jane, would you mind if Bella joined us?” I asked politely, knowing what her answer would be.

“Of course not, I’m getting two real friends on my first day, why would I mind?” She laughed. We all walked to her car and she opened it. I slid into the passenger seat and Bella sat in the back.

“Nice car.” Bella said appreciatively.

“Oh thanks, I got it for my 16th birthday.” Jane said, smiling.

“So fill me in, Alice and Edward know everything about you, and I know nothing!” Bella exclaimed. Jane laughed and Bella gave me look. I instantly knew what that look meant. And without my mind-reading brother’s help, if I may say so.She’s perfect for Daniel.

Ally’s POV:

I bit down on my bottom lip even harder as I felt tension build inside of me. I squeezed the warm hand that was squeezing my own as my heart rate increased.

“Shh, sweetheart…it’ll be ok. I love you.” His deep voice was soothing and it calmed my nerves a little bit, until the doctor stepped back into the small office and my nerves felt as if they were on fire.

“No need to worry, Mrs. Black. Some very good results came back from your testing.” The doctor said, smiling brightly.

This morning, I had thrown up harshly and these past couple of nights I hadn’t been able to get a wink of sleep. Jacob, being the over-protective husband he is, demanded that I see a doctor. I made him come with me because hospitals tend to freak me out.

“What is it, Doctor?” Jake’s voice came from next to me. I felt another squeeze on my hand, and I knew that he would be growling soon if the doctor didn’t spit it out.

“Well…it seems that you two are about to be parents.”

“HOLY SHIT!!!”
