Bella’s heart was racing, beating against her ribcage, and Edward knew it. He could hear it – could feel it against his own, still chest as he held Bella to him.

They lay entwined together on the blanket in Bella’s backyard. They looked like your typical teens in love. Bella rolled on top of Edward and kissed him softly, her eyelids fluttering. Edward wrapped his arms around her and pulled her to him, deepening the kiss. Their mouths opened to each other. Bella began dropping kisses along his jaw line; down his throat, across his collarbone, pulling the collar on his cotton sweater out of the way.

Then Edward flipped Bella to her back and leaned over her body and traced similar kisses across her face and neck and arms. Their mouths met again and their hands wandered.

They were supposed to be laying a trap for Victoria. And it worked. It worked so well, in fact, that they forgot they were laying a trap.

Edward tugged at Bella’s blouse. His fingertips danced at the button on her jeans.

“Edward?” she asked, startled.

He kissed her, swallowing her words.

“Edward, no,” she said. “I thought we couldn’t?”

Finally Edward pulled back, gasping. He wasn’t short of breath, but his actions had carried him away. “I’m sorry,” he said. “You’re just so … delectable.”

“Yes,” said another voice from above them. “Delectable.”

The couple turned and where met by Victoria.

Before they had time to react, Victoria lunged at Edward and threw him across the yard, towards the woods. As he got to his feet to race back, Victoria was on top of Bella. She kicked her in the ribs and Bella rolled several feet. She gasped for air and choked, spitting up blood. Her eyes looked up pleadingly, but that only made Victoria smile as she reached down and pulled the girl up as if she were a rag doll.

Something cracked inside Bella’s body and she felt the vampire’s fingernails cutting into her skin, drawing blood.

Then, something rammed full-force into Victoria’s side, forcing her to drop Bella. The girl fell to the ground with a groan.

Edward was at Bella’s side in an instant, seething.

Buffy, meanwhile, was doing her best to fight Victoria – a vampire stronger than those she was used to. Spike joined her – but even together, they were no match. They held off Victoria for a little while, but eventually, she flung them aside and stalked back to Edward and Bella.

“I wasn’t finished yet,” she leered.

Edward’s nostrils flared. His eyes darkened with anger and lust for Bella’s blood – blood which was already staining her clothes. He flew at Victoria, but she deflected him with merely a wave of her arm, as if he were a feather.

She swooped down on Bella and lifted the girl over her head. Victoria held Bella by the ankle, swung her over her head like a lasso and then let her go – flinging her away. Bella flew several yards before slamming into a tree and falling on the ground with a loud crack.

“I will tear you to bits,” Edward howled.

He ran again at Victoria, but this time she didn’t get away so easily. Another set of arms wrapped around her legs. And another set tugged around her middle until she collapsed beneath the force.

Edward tore into her, ripping at her vampire flesh. Spike and Buffy grabbed her around the middle and Edward grabbed her bottom and ran. Something snapped and the body stopped moving – both halves of it.

“Finish it,” Edward growled. Spike and Buffy pulled out their weapons and began piecing what was left of Victoria into smaller bits.

But Edward wasn’t paying attention. He was searching for Bella. When his eyes found her, he screamed.
