Jake and I raced back home. Charlie's cruiser was in the driveway.
I told Jake that I wanted to tell Charlie about us. I invited him in and asked if he wanted to stay for dinner. I had made and froze two lasagnas earlier this week so that Charlie wouldn't starve if I had to stay in La Push overnight.
I figured it would be okay because Charlie would need some support and I wasn't sure if I knew how to do that. How do you comfort your father who just lost his best friend? I figured a guy had to do it.
My plans changed though. Jake opened the door and started to step out when he jumped back in the truck in a quick and swift movement. He started the truck and backed out of the driveway, making the tires shriek.
"Jake? What's wrong?! Where are we going? I need to go back to Charlie! Ja-"
"Bella, stop! There is a vampire in your house and I am trying to stay calm."
His knuckles were white. This is not good.
"Charlie! What about Charlie! Jake you have to go back! What if Victoria is there?"
"It isn't her. I haven't smelt this one before. I think that we should find a phone and call your house."
"What if it's..." I couldn't finish my thought.
"I-I don't know, Bella. We have to find a damn phone."
"Turn right! Go in this parking lot."
We were at Newton's sporting goods. I rushed in.
"Mike! It's an emergency! I need to use the phone!"
"Um...okay. Go ahead."
I was already dialing my number. Charlie answered.
"Oh, Charlie! Goo-"
"Bella! Where are you? I was worried!" He was worried? There was a vampire in or near my house that could have drained him dry of his blood and he was worried about me?
"I'm with Jake. I'll be there in a few minutes, okay?"
"Okay, Bells. Hey! Could you pick up a liter of pop before you come home? We have company!"
Something is very wrong here. I can't see her future anymore. She has absolutely vanished. It is very unnerving. I can't see that boy's future either. It must be because she is tied to him. She's made a decision to be with him.
Edward is coming. I wish he wouldn't. He thinks she's dead but instead she has made the worst mistake ever! She's with someone else. Edward had lost his will to live just being away from her. What would happen if he found her with someone else? Would he actually kill himself? I don't see anything right now.
He brought it upon himself. He left and she's tired of waiting. I can't say I really blame her.
Great! A vampire I can't kill! At least, not without sabotaging this new thing with Bella.
I told her I obviously wouldn't be able to come to dinner. She understood. I brought her back and I phased after I made sure this wasn't some sort of trap. I started running home thinking about Bella.
That's when I heard the voices.
"Haha! You finally scored, eh?" said Quil.
"Aw man! We were just getting to the good part!" That was Embry as I abruptly ended my train of thought.
"Aw, Jake got his first french kiss today!" And there's Paul.
"Shut up!" I tried to make it as authoritative as possible.
"Leave him alone! There is a lot more important things then Jacob's...love interest. There is a vampire in town? Is it a Cullen? Are they all coming back?" I heard Sam say.
"There is a vampire back in town. As far as I know, she is alone. It is a Cullen but I don't think we have to tighten the perimeter much. I don't know if the rest plan to come back. I'll ask Bells when I call her tonight."
"Okay. Boys phase back. You can tease Jake when he gets back."
"Aw man!" said Quil.
"Kill joy", muttered Embry.
Then their thoughts drifted away as they phased back. It was silent....except for some slight snickering.
"Okay! I'm going, Sam!"
"Thanks, Sam." I thanked God for the fact that I couldn't blush.
"Sure." I saw his thoughts flicker to his first french kiss and then slowly fade as he also phased back into a human.
Just what I wanted to see. I actually threw up a little bit in my mouth at that one.
