Alice came in the kitchen as I was making breakfast one morning.
"Bella, do you really not want to see him?"
"Alice, I want to see him with all my heart, but he doesn't want to see me." I put my hand up as she tried to interrupt me.
"He put it quite plainly, Alice. I can't see him. If I do, I will fall apart. I have barely got this far without physically, emotionally, and mentally shutting down."
I felt my heart ripping apart to expose the simmering edges of the hole. Alice being here was the only thing keeping me from going into convulsions right now.
"Okay. I know a way to keep him from coming here. You can call him. Tell him your alive, and he wont need to come here."
"You said that he wouldn't answer his phone..."
"He will answer when he sees who's number it is."
"Wont he think that it is just you calling him?"
"Edward doesn't know I'm here. He'll probably kill me when he finds out, too. All this crap about 'interfering' ", her muttering trailed off.
"Do it now. He'll answer."
I picked up the phone and started to dial but I misdialed because my hands were shaking so much. This repeated about three more times before Alice took the phone in her hands, dialed, and handed the phone back.
"Bella?" his velvety voice breathed. I about keeled over right there, at the sound of his voice. I was going to regret this later.
"I don't want you to come with me."
*End of Flashback*
I'll keep your memory vague so that you wont feel bad about me. Don't worry. It's okay. I'll say the things you said.
"Edward, I'm alive. You don't have to waste your time coming here. You can go back to your distraction.... bye, Edward."
I said it in a rush. If he didn't process things faster then a human, I would have had to repeat it.
"I don't want you to come here."
"Bella! Don't hang u-"
I hung up before he could finish. Even though he spoke under a dozen words to me, I still collapsed to the linoleum floor, sobbing.
Sometimes the wind reminds me. Don't worry. It's okay. I'll keep your memory vague so that you wont feel bad about me.
I don't know what possessed me to say that. I wanted him to come. I wanted him to say that he loved me. I wanted him to take me in his arms.
"Is he still coming?" I managed to choke out.
I realized why I said that. I wanted to hurt him just like he hurt me. But it wouldn't matter. He didn't love me.
Alice picked me up and laid me on the couch. I cried for a long time.
Okay, so I lied. Bella would freak out if she knew that he was still coming. She practically had a stroke when she heard his voice.
I had a vision that he would come, see them together and then leave again. I couldn't let him come here and pull down everything Bella had done to recover.
I knew that it would kill Edward when he found out that she was with that werewolf. I swear, that girl can't watch out for herself at all.
"What are you up to? I've been waiting for you to call."
"Oh. I took a little nap. Sorry."
"No, you need your sleep. I was just worried. Um...I have to tell you something."
"What is it, Bells? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. I...I...he...um...Jake, he was going to come back. I called him and I told him that I was alive and now he's not coming. I wanted to tell you so that if you found out then it wouldn't be like I was hiding it. He's not coming so we don't have to worry about it."
I heard a bang in the kitchen and then a grunt.
"Jake? I'm sorry okay. Maybe I shouldn't have told you...Jake? Please don't be mad. Jake?" She was going into hysterics. I was trying to figure out what that noise was.
"Bella, I'm not mad. One sec. I need to go check something..."
I walked into the kitchen and there I saw Billy. He was on the floor, unconscious.
"Billy! Oh, God!"
I ran back to the phone.
"Bella, meet me at the emergency room! Billy's hurt!"
