For naught so vile that on the earth doth liveBut to the earth some special good doth give;Nor aught so good but, strain'd from that fair use,Revolts from true birth, stumbling on the abuse:Virtue itself turns vice, being misapplied; And vice sometimes by action dignified.

I turned to see Edward Cullen standing not 2 feet from me. He was a vampire, and Jake was a werewolf. It was hard to even think that such things were possible.

My eyes were red and puffy but there were no tears left in them to shed.

“Are you okay?” he asked.

I almost laughed. Was I okay? He had to be serious.

I turned to him, laughing without humor. “How okay would you be if you found out everything was different then you thought? Would you be okay if your brother turned into some wolf and attacked you because you were hanging with someone who turned out to be a vampire?”

He cringed at the last word.

“You found out.” He said, looking at the ground instead of in my eyes.

“Yeah, I found out the hard way.” I rubbed my arm; the blood had clotted in the bandage, leaving brown stains across the white surface.

“I’m sorry.” Edward said. He walked over to me and sat down, careful to keep space between us.

“Why, cause I found out your dirty little secret?” Whenever I was upset or angry, my sarcastic nature always seemed to come out.

“No, because you got hurt.” His smooth voice said.

“Well, who cares?” I stood up and began to walk around the meadow. “I mean, the guy I’m falling for is a vampiristic leach and my brother, who is a large dog, is his enemy. I guess I can put this down as one of the top ten best days of my life!” I could have screamed I was so frustrated.

Before I could blink though, Edward was standing in front of me. His eyes were almost black and smoldering in away that made me self conscious.

“You may be falling for a guy,” he said, his hands running up my arms, causing me to shiver against him. “But I already fell for a girl whose brother is my enemy.”

I didn’t say a word. I couldn’t really, because his cold firm lips were pressed against mine and all I could think about was him. I knew I was wrong when I said I was falling, I had hit the bottom long ago when it came to Edward Cullen.

The clouds passed slowly overhead. Dark gloomy clouds that once seemed to bring despair into my life, now seemed to be the blanket under which Edward and I now laid.

We laid there in the meadow for an immeasurable amount of time. I didn’t think about Jake or anything else. I should have realized there would be hell to pay when I got home but I didn’t care.

My fingers ran up Edward’s cold arms. I felt his chest moving with each breath he took beneath my head. I wished that time would just freeze.

The sky had grown darker and I knew it was time I was heading home.

“Edward.” I said. He just hmmed in response. “I think I need to go home.”

“Wouldn’t you rather spend some more time here with me?” he said, picking up my hand and kissing my palm and then each finger. He was making it nearly impossible for me to concentrate.

“Of course I would, but my dad would kill me, and I really need to make things right with Jake.”

“And so the lovers were sent apart, alas this reminds me too much of the young Capulet and Montague, whose mere names kept them apart.”

I giggled. “Are thou a Shakespearean actor now?”

He turned slightly, “Only if my lady doth find it amusing.”

“Well, this Juliet needs to get her butt home, so farewell my dear Romeo Montague.”

I stood and began to walk out of the forest back to my bike. Edward caught me around the waist though, planting one last parting kiss upon my lips.

“I’ll be thinking about you all night.” He whispered in my ear.

“As I will be dreaming of you.” He smiled after that, the crooked smile I had began to love so much.

I knew I need to shower before I saw Jake again. Sam had said that I smelled like a leach, so I was going to assume that I had smelled like Edward, which had set Jake off the first time.

The house was dark as I approached. I snuck through the door and headed straight for the bathroom. I used my strawberry shampoo and a bushel of scented soap to ensure that I was clean. I rewrapped my arm in clean bandage before sneaking back into my room.

I didn’t make it that far. Billy and Jake were already sitting in my room.

Jake looked absolutely miserable. He was wallowing in the corner. I walked over to him and hugged him tight.

“Its okay, Jake. I still love you and I did always want a dog.”

Jake laughed but I knew he was still feeling guilty.

Billy just looked at me like I was not telling something.

“Where have you been?”

“I was in the meadow.” Billy knew where I was talking about.

“Bella, are you sure you are fine with all of this?”

“Yeah, Dad, I came terms with everything.”

“Good, have a good night sleep. Just remember to stay away from the Cullen’s.”

I nodded my head, and Billy rolled out of my room, followed by Jake. It was almost 1 in the morning. I crawled under my worn quilt. I knew deep down that Edward and I could not be together, but I sure as hell wished that we could be.
