I ran as fast as I could force my legs. I thought Jake had been kidding when he said he was a werewolf. Turning, I looked behind me to see if he was following, he wasn’t, as far as I could tell.
After running for what seemed like hours I finally stopped. There was forest all around me. In my shock I had gotten myself lost. I had no Ipod, no cell service, nothing. There was nothing that could connect me to help. I looked around for a clearing to sit in and found none, settling for where I was at already instead. Then I realized how much I must have hurt Jake by running away. He wouldn’t be coming for me anytime soon.
That’s when I heard a twig snap. Someone was here. “Jake?” I said guessing aloud.
“No, I’m Sebastian.” A smooth voice came from my left and I stood to greet it.
“What are you doing out here?” I asked confused.
“Hunting.” was his only reply.
“What do you hunt? Bears or something?” I asked a little annoyed, I hated hunting. Innocent animals don’t deserve to be killed just because someone thinks its fun.
“Not exactly.” He said and I could see him better now. He had blood red eyes and was staring at me like I was…food or something.
“Oh.” his answer caught me off guard a bit.
“I hope you won’t mind me helping myself, seeing as you’re the first human I’ve run into and you smell simply scrumptious.” He licked his lips.
“I mind.” Jakes voice came from the other side of me. In two quick movements Jake had moved forward and had put me behind him.
“You know pup, it’s not wise to interrupt a vampire’s meal. Especially one that he’s looking forward to.” Sebastian dived towards Jake but didn’t make it as another unexpected visitor crashed into him from the side. In the dark I could barely tell that this new wolf was gray. Right behind that wolf came another, this on was a dark silvery color. Following that one came three others, a black one, a chocolate one, and a light brown one. Jake stayed human though while the other wolves fought the vampire I gulped. I was now dragged into a world of mythical creatures I never knew existed all in the span of a few hours. My footing faltered and I bumped into Jake who turned around, saw my state, and picked me up. He carried me away from the fight like I was a small child about to be put to bed.
“Quioa, you’re safe. I promise I’ll never let anything hurt you, ever.” Jake whispered words to me, trying to soothe and calm me. That’s when a loud tearing sound echoed throughout the forest. Jake and I both flinched and he continued to carry me away.
“Explain.” was all I could manage to say.
“Get some sleep and I’ll explain when you wake up. You must be exhausted; you’ve been through a lot today.” He stared down at me in his arms like he was checking for any injuries.
“Explain.” I said with more force. “Why did you pick me? Why was a…a…vampire after me?” my shock was quickly replaced by surprise, curiosity, and anger. He sighed and looked around a bit.
“Do you mind if you don’t find out till we get back to my house? If I run we should be there in about 5-10 minutes.” I could tell by the look on his face that he was going to tell me so I gave in.
“Fine.” I closed my eyes and waited.
“That’s strange.” Carlisle thought aloud. “I think you should bring her here. We should see if she sees everyone else as humans as well.”
“I can’t.” I answered. “I can’t bring her to meet everyone. She doesn’t know what we are yet.”
“When were you planning on telling her?” He attempted to sound patient.
“I’m working on it.” my irritation wasn’t hidden. What if she ran from me? I have to ease her into the thought that vampires exist.
“Bring her in 3 hours. That gives you enough time to tell her and finish your date.” Carlisle replied and then hung up without giving me a chance to argue. I turned around and was face to face with Kelsey.
“Oh, hello.” I said shocked.
“What was that about?” she asked me, confused. I tried to figure out what she had heard. Before he was changed into what? His family wants to meet me? What’s he working on? Why does he look so tense?
“Just that my family wants to meet you.” I said, trying to sound as casual as possible.
“Oh.” Does he not want his family to meet me? Her thoughts and speech all blended together. The distinction was barely there. “So are we going to go see them?” she asked.
“We can, if you’d like. If you’re done eating I can go get the car.” I answered.
“Sure, ok. Lets go.” This isn’t awkward at all. We both thought sarcastically at the same time and I chuckled quietly, earning myself a confused look.
