Victoria? Shoot—this can’t be good. Edward was next to me in a flash, whispering in my ear.

“It’s too late for us to escape, but stay behind me…” And then he stepped in front of me, blocking me from the entrance that Victoria would no doubt take.

Seconds later, the red-haired feline stepped out of the shadows.

“Oh look, it’s the Cullen clan! What a pleasant surprise!” Her icy voice penetrated me with mock sincerity.

“Victoria.” Edward growled.

“Don’t worry, I mean no harm. I only wish to take her. After all, a mate for a mate seems fair, right?” She pointed at me, smiling to reveal her sharp teeth.

Edward crouched into a defensive stance before answering. “You will be doing no such thing—get out or I’ll tear you to shreds, just like we did your nasty mate…” Edward seemed to be slightly taunting her, and she hissed.

“You can do this the easy way, or the hard way. I promise that if you do it the easy way, I will kill her quickly and painlessly. If not…” I flinched when she said kill. Even though I had expected as much, it still startled me.

Carlisle chose now to step in, looking at Edward and obviously telling him to get control of himself through his thoughts. “Victoria, I hardly think it’s fair. After all, Bella I believe, got her fair share. Your mate tracked her, bribed her, and almost killed her. Is that not enough?”

“Never.” Victoria hissed again.

“Well then, unfortunately, you still won’t get her. So, unless you feel you can fight all of us off, then I suggest you leave.” Carlisle and everyone else stepped in between her and me, and she scoffed.

Suddenly, a cold arm grabbed me from behind. I squealed, but the unknown person quickly covered my mouth and it was extremely muffled. I felt myself flung over someone’s back, and then we were moving.

EDWARD!! I screamed through my mind. But then I felt a blow to my face and I passed out.

(Edward’s point of view)

EDWARD!! I heard inside my head and I whirled.

Bella was gone.

“BELLA??” I called, panicked as I rummaged through the trees behind us. Alice was instantly by my side, followed by Emmett, Esme, Carlisle, and Jasper.

“Where’s Bella?” Alice demanded.

“She was right behind me, then she projected ‘Edward!’ and I turned around and she was gone. I swear she was right behind me!! Was it Thomas? Or the werewolves? Or Victoria?” I sank to the ground, my head in my hands.

Good job Alexander, she didn’t even scream…I heard Victoria’s thoughts and flew towards her.

“WHERE IS SHE?” I demanded, slamming her to the ground and pinning her beneath my knees. She scratched with her fingers and I growled. “TELL ME, WHERE IS SHE??”

“Get off of me! Alexander has her.” Victoria smirked at my rage-filled face.

“WHO IS ALEXANDER?” I bellowed. By now Emmett was next to me and he pulled her up, locking her in a choke hold.

Victoria gasped as she struggled to break his hold. She pointed a finger in the direction she had come.

There was Bella, either dead or asleep—I didn’t know. She was in the arms of a huge vampire—probably even bigger then Emmett. That must be Alexander.

I flew at him even though he was twice as big as me with biceps about the size of my head.

“Not so fast. You take one more step and he’ll kill her.” Victoria said, and I froze. No! They couldn’t do that to Bella.

“Now let me go, or the girl is dead meat.” She instructed. I turned to look at her, and nodded at Emmett. He let her go, and she raced to Alexander’s side, taking Bella’s still form in her arms.

“I-is she d-dead?” I asked shakily, falling to my knees.

“No, not yet—simply unconscious. But if you follow us—she will be dead.” Victoria answered.

Not dead? Yes! But, destined to be… Oh Bella, please wake up!

“Please…” I pleaded pitifully.

Victoria, still holding onto Bella, approached me, a smirk profound on her face.

“Now I bet you wish you hadn’t killed James, huh? You killed him, and in turn killed me. Now, I am going to do the same to you.” She spun on her heel and, with Bella still in her arms, disappeared into the night.
