“You think so?” I asked, but I knew it was true. I surveyed myself in the three way mirror approvingly, taking in the delicate silk dress and all the pretty makeup. A flash of light brought my attention to the blue topaz gem on my finger, and I held it up to the light.
I was getting married.
Edward had insisted upon us having our wedding in Forks, with the rest of my family, instead of in the meadow--vampires only--like I had wanted. Charlie had been a bit mad when I hadn’t come home from the “hiking trip” until two weeks after the scheduled date, but he eventually got over it. And he is actually starting to warm up to Edward, after Edward went fishing with him and caught quadruple the amount Charlie would catch in a year…
As for the whole, “James being alive again and Victoria still set on killing me” thing, Emmett took care of that one. Neither of them would poison the air by breathing any longer.
All in all, the world as a whole was pretty much back to normal. Edward and I were together again, I was no longer being chased by sadistic vampires, and the time machine had successfully been destroyed.
“Hurry, we need to get out there. Its about to start!” Rosalie said, and Alice began to pull on my arm and get me out of there. I cast one last look in the mirror. I was wearing a fairly simple yet elegant gown, white, of course, with spaghetti strap sleeves and a bodice that flowed loosely around my ankles and swelled into a short train. (It had taken much persuading to make Alice let me wear this dress--she wanted me to wear the other dress--a strapless one that was tight until the waist where it exploded into a full skirt constructed from about a million layers of lace. Yeah, not exactly my kind of dress. ) My hair was done up in the most complex updo I had ever seen, and my face was caked in makeup. I looked nothing like myself.
“Come on!” Alice pulled me out of the dressing room and shoved me roughly towards the door, where Charlie waited, a smile plastered across his face. Rosalie and Alice waved and then disappeared around the corner.
The organ music began to play, and Charlie started walking.
“Come on!” Charlie whispered, tugging me towards the now open door. I lifted my dress gingerly and stepped through. I cast my eyes around the room, spotting several people, including Renee, Phil, all of the kids from school (whom Charlie had insisted we invite) and… Edward.
God, he was gorgeous. I had seen him in a tux before, but his beauty left me breathless once again. I felt the urge to leap into his arms, but instead I smiled and continued walking.
I now had a new ring on my finger, this one constructed of a thin silver band and a gorgeous diamond. It signified a lot of things, but mainly it signified that Edward was really and truly mine… forever. He was my angel, my savior, my life, and now… my husband.
My husband. Edward. Forever.
Just like whenever I thought about Edward, an elated feeling swept through me, only this time, I swear I heard a low thump from my chest.
