I could hear voices. Swift voices a couple yards away. They sounded familiar, a sweet soprano tone and a deeper bass.

Where am I?

I endeavored to open my eyes; it felt like to led weights held my lids closed. I struggled to grasp where I was. I had a vague idea that I was on my back, and my entire body was sore from sleeping for so long. The voices came closer:

“She’s been asleep for almost a week. Is that…normal?” I recognized the deeper voice, but I had no idea who it belonged to.

“I saw her waking up yesterday—she should be fine. But I hope Edward is ok…” the soprano voice answered.

Then it hit me. I was a vampire.

I wrenched my eyelids back and turned to where Alice and Jasper stood talking a few feet away.

Alice turned. “BELLA!!” she exclaimed, and flung her arms around my neck. “I was so worried! It’s been almost a week—we didn’t know what had happened! Edward was miserable—he’s out hunting now. Carlisle even began to get worried! But your ok now…right? Do you feel all right??”

“I’m fine…” I trailed. My voice was a sweeter, higher pitched tone. Wow.

Alice recognized the incredulity on my face. She grabbed me by the wrist and towed me upstairs to her bathroom, ignoring the groans of my muscles.

I really was a vampire. My skin was paler—a clear, translucent color. I had lost about ten pounds, I actually had curves. Purplish bruises were smeared beneath sea-foam green eyes.

“Alice, why are my eyes green?” I stared intently at my reflection in the mirror.

She looked over at me. “Oh, wow. That’s interesting…” I could feel the confusion emanating from her, as if it was a tangible substance. I puzzled at that momentarily, and then returned my gaze towards my reflection.

“What?” I asked. My eyes were a strange mix between blue and green—they looked sort of like mermaid eyes.

“I don’t know—we’ll have to ask Carlisle…”

“Oh…” I said distantly.

“Speaking of Carlisle, lets go see the rest of the family!!”

I was spellbound by my own eyes.

“Well come on!” she said, grabbing hold of me by the wrist. “We have to go see Edward!! Everyone else is there too.” And we ran.

Wow. The speed was amazing. Exhilerating. We were in an unrecognizable clearing in about two minutes.

And there he was. Edward.

(Edward’s point of view)

Carlisle and Esme were feasting on a dead deer. Emmett and Rosalie were off hunting together. I simply sat against the tree, my head in my hands.

Bella wasn’t waking up.

I killed the love of my life.

This torturous thought embedded itself into my brain, racking me with confounded misery. I sobbed tearless sobs…

“EDWARD!!!!” I heard Alice shout my name from somewhere in the mass of trees. I pulled my head up and rubbed my eyes.

Suddenly Alice emerged from the trees, a grin spreading across her face.

“Allow me to present your new gorgeous wife, the fabulous Bella Swan!!”

I stared.

An amazingly striking girl emerged from behind the trees. Translucent skin and purple under-eye circles marked her as a vampire; perfect features and a slender figure marked her as a goddess. I could only stare in amazement as I watched this ethereal girl stop in the center of the clearing and stare at me with those penetrating sea foam eyes…

It was Bella.

Long mahogany hair framed her face; she flashed a smile exposing perfect teeth. She was dazzling; enough so that even Rosalie stared angrily, green from jealousy.

I watched as the ethereal girl began to fidget, nervously looking at each face.

It was Emmett who finally spoke. Or more, wolf whistled. Rosalie hit him with the back of her hand.

“Bella, dearest!” Esme flew to her side and wrapped her arms around her. Carlisle joined her. “Welcome to the family, Bella.”

I could only stare. Alice stood back against the trees, Jasper at her side. A smug look rested across her face as she watched my open mouthed reaction.

Bella walked at human speed over to me. “Edward…” she looked down at the ground nervously.

I realized my mistake. She thought I was mad.

In an instant, I was next to her and I pulled her close to me. “Bella…”

She looked up at me, brilliant green eyes piercing through me. “Are you mad?”

Mad? Was she kidding? I fell in love with the most amazing human girl who turned my life upside down. After attempting to change her, she wouldn’t wake up. And now here she was, a goddess, an angel, and she thought I was mad?

“The exact opposite…you cannot grasp how happy I am right now.”

(Bella’s point of view)

“…you cannot grasp how happy I am right now.”

Well that would explain the happiness that seems to be radiating off his skin, but why did he stare so long? And speaking of which, why could I seem to know he was happy? I looked at each of the other vampire’s faces. I noticed how each different emotion seemed to link me to it’s feeling. For example, since Edward was so happy, my happiness was almost doubled. Strange…

Edward brought me out of my reverie.

“Bella…you can’t imagine how miserable I was. You were asleep for almost a week. I thought I had killed” he gulped “you. Bella, I am the happiest man on earth right now. I was stunned speechless. You are dazzling. You made Rosalie jealous.”

I made Rosalie jealous? Wow.

And then he kissed me.

Pressing his unusually warm lips to mine, he wrapped his arms around me. I entangled my fingers in his hair and pressed myself to him. I waited for him to stiffen and pull away, like he usually did when I launched myself to passionately into the kiss. But he didn’t. Remembering my new strength, I parted my lips as my fingers moved to his face.

And then my stomach growled.

“Oh!” I said, pulling away.

He chuckled. “Your thirsty…” He pointed to the dead deer that Carlisle and Esme had left. It was then that I realized we are alone—they must have left to give us some privacy. Edward continued, “They already drained that deer of its blood, but I’ll help you catch another one.” He chuckled at my horrified expression.

My face soured. “You mean I have to drink…blood?” Even I realized the idiocy of this question, and Edward tipped his head back and laughed hysterically.

Then he said, “Yes, of course you do. Unless you thought you could get moves like these,” he paused and sprinted around the clearing, appearing in front of me again, “and still eat pizza and French fries…” He laughed again.

But I merely wrinkled my nose, the thought of drinking blood disgusting me.

“Come on,” Edward towed me by my wrist, “I’ll show you how…” I remembered how I had always wished to see how Edward hunted; now I wished the exact opposite.

We ran through the trees at exhilarating speed and then Edward stopped. I saw a big elk eying us from a few feet away, before fleeing. But Edward was on top of it in seconds.

I screamed. Severe pain rushed through me; the elks' pain, I realized. It was as if I was dying, and not the elk. It felt so sick. I fell to my knees, sinking to the ground. I lay there, my breath coming in sharp gasps, my mind reeling with images of the dead elk. A horrid agony hit me again and again. Sobs ripped from my chest, muffling my screams. Edward was next to me in seconds.

“BELLA! What’s wrong? Oh my God I am so sorry! Bella, what happened?” He pulled my to him, whispering soothing assurances in my ear while I cried tearlessly. When I had calmed down enough to speak, I turned toward him.

“That poor elk! Edward, I could feel its pain. I could feel that death. Oh Edward, how could you? That poor, poor elk! Oh my God…” And I started sobbing again.

“Shhh, it’s ok. Everything’s going to be all right. I’ll just have to watch killing anything around you… I wonder why that happened? I’ll talk to Carlisle later…”

Eventually I cleaned myself up, all except for the red rings around my green eyes.

My stomach growled again, and I looked over at the elk. Crimson blood soaked the earth, pulling me towards it. The scent drove me mad, but my conscience would not allow me drink it. I recalled the torture of watching the elk die, and resisted. Edward watched.

“You’re going to have to drink it eventually, or you won’t be able to resist human’s blood—it’s much stronger.” He said.

I wrinkled my nose and retorted, “I can’t! Not after watching it die!”

“I suppose I am going to have to end up leaving you at home while I go hunting and then bring you back some…either that or I will force-feed you…” He grinned at my horror-filled expression.

Suddenly Edward stiffened, and Alice came bounding out of the trees. "Edward! Bella! The volturi are here!"
