Upon entering the house, I found that it was not just the outside that looked like a medieval castle. The inside was decked out with tapestries and tiled floors—looking more like something out of The Dukes of Hazard then an actual house. Recalling the image of the man that had opened the gates for me, I quickly mustered up an illusion before someone saw me. Then I started down the long hall.

(Edward’s point of view)

I eyed the lock on the door for the millionth time, and re-inspected the walls for some sort of trap door. There was no way out. I howled again, slamming myself into the door. How were we going to get out of here?

A floral scent drifted into the cell, and I started. Could I be imagining that amazingly familiar scent? I pressed my face up against the metal door, peeking through the small hole. Shoot—it was just two guards talking.

One of the guards left, and the other strode towards my cell, emanating that scent. I watched incredulously as he looked up at me with sea-foam green eyes.

Don’t make any noise!

Bella’s voice weaved its way into my mind, lighting up my face with an incredulous grin. How had Bella gotten in here? Did Thomas get her? But she was alone…

Joy swelled up inside me as she dropped the illusion, revealing her gorgeous face. She pulled out a ring of keys and opened the door, leaping into my arms. I rocked her silently, my entire body on fire.

Yes! I was finally back in Edward’s arms, back where I belonged. He held me recklessly close, pressing his lips to mine. I kissed him back, entwining my fingers through his hair. After a few seconds, I pulled away.

We need to get your family.

I sent this to him and he nodded. “Not mine—ours.” He whispered, his cool breath against my face. I relaxed in the sound of his velvety voice, exiting the cell and heading towards the others that lined the wall.

“Bella?” Someone whispered from one of them. I saw Rosalie’s eyes through a small hole in the door.

I nodded and pulled out the ring of keys. Her eyes lit up and she stared, amazed, as the door swung free. She opened her mouth to exclaim but I put my finger on my lips to shush her. She shut her mouth and we proceeded on.

On the fourth cell, Edward went rigid. I immediately panicked--did Alice see something? I turned around just in time to see Thomas enter, his golden eyes full of satisfaction.

“Busted…”He mouthed.
