2. Chapter 2 Telling Charlie

Rating 4.5/5   Word Count 685   Review this Chapter

Bella was sitting in her truck with Edward driving on the way to tell Charlie that they would be married in August. She knew that it was probably not going to be easy, but she had promised him that she would give him notice.

When the house came into view Charlie’s cruiser was in the driveway. Bella knew that she could not put telling him off any longer. At least Edward would be there to support her.

When they pulled into the driveway she slowly got out of the truck and started walking to the door. She was walking so slowly that Edward ended up having to pull her along, her human speed being to slow for him.

When they entered Charlie greeted Bella happily and scowled at Edward. When Bella saw this she knew that telling Charlie might be even harder than she thought. She decided that it was best not to put it off any longer and asked if they could all go and sit in the living room. She sat on the couch with Edward beside her. Charlie sat down cautiously sat in the chair across from them his eyes darting between Edward and then to Bella.

Everyone sat in silence for a few minutes everyone too scared to break the silence. It was Charlie that finally had enough of the quiet and turned to Bella to say “What is going on Bella?” Bella looked into her father’s eyes trying to find her voice when he grew impatient. “Bella, you tell me what is going on right now.”

Finally finding her voice she started to tell him. “Dad Edward and I are going to be married this August. I promised to give you notice and so I am telling you now.”

Charlie’s face turned confused then to an angry red color. “Bella, do you really want to marry him? What about Jacob? What if he decides to leave again? Don’t make the same mistake your mom and I made. Maybe you should wait a little bit longer. Give Jacob more time.”

It was Bella’s turn to turn red. Bella couldn’t believe what her dad was saying. “ I am not going to change my mind. I am not like you and mom and I don’t want to be with Jacob.” She was screaming furious at her dad. “I am not going to deal with you always treating Edward bad. Can you not accept me being happy?”

She knew she had hurt Charlie by the change in his facial expression, but she knew he wasn’t going to give in. “If you can’t accept me being with Edward, then I refuse to spend another night in this house. I don’t want to live in a place where my choice on my husband is not supported. I will stay at Edward’s, and I will tell you the details of where the wedding will be when we figure it out.”

Bella then stormed out of the living room and ran up to her room to gather her things.

Edward before following Bella turned to Charlie and said “Jacob will be at the wedding and is my best man. I hope that you will attend. It would hurt Bella if you did not come.”

“Do you really think that this is best?” Edward questioned Bella when he got up stairs. She didn’t answer him, but started to cry instead. He went to comfort her, but she just grabbed her bags and started to the truck.

As they left they could hear Charlie crying and mumbling. “Why Bella? How could you do this? How could you ask Jacob to be in the wedding? Why did it have to be him that you want to be with?”

Bella threw her bags in the back of the truck blindly and got into the drivers side. She fully intended to drive, but Edward knew that she was in no condition to do this and he picked her up and moved her to the passenger side. He then sat in the drivers seat himself and slowly drove home.
