It was the snarls that woke me up.

“What are you doing here?” I heard Jake shout. “The short leech said she’d keep you away until we gave you the ok!”

“Not even the devil himself could keep me away right now mongrel.” Edwards voice was harsh and firm. “I’ve been away for far too long, it’s amazing I stayed away this long.” The sound of his voice was enough to make me shiver.

“What are you planning on doing? Freezing her to death? She’s shivering!” Jake yelled again and I could hear the floorboards creaking as he stepped toward my bed. My bed shifted beneath me, making me realize that I was actually in Edwards’s arms. He was beginning to pull away from me. Instantly I pulled him closer to me.

“No.” I heard a small whisper escape my lips.

“She doesn’t seem to have any problem with my being here.” Edward said, sounding surprised yet somehow relieved.

“I’ll be back. Don’t get too comfy here, it’ll be a short stay if I have anything to say about it.” Jake left then and I lay in silence, not daring to open my eyes just to find out that I could be dreaming.

“Bella? Are you awake?” Edward said softly, yet cautious.

“Depends, are you really here?” I responded quietly waiting for my answer.

“Yes, Bella I’m here. I’m here and I’m prepared to grovel and beg and plead until the day my existence ends if that’s what it’ll take.” His voice was desperate, despondent, and hopeless.

“How do I know you won’t leave me?” I asked, opening my eyes a little. He was looking down at me as if he had never seen me before, watching my every move, and slowly stroking my hair like every moment he spent with me meant more to him than anything else in the world.

“You’re just going to have to trust me. Besides, it was killing me more and more every second I was away from you. Even if Alice hadn’t called me I would still have come back possibly in a few days begging for you to take me back. I was even considering singing to you if I had to.” I just stared up at his face as he spoke. There were still three gigantic questions floating around in my head. I continued with the first.

“Ok, but why did you leave in the first place? You told me you didn’t love me.” Tears began to fall from my eyes as I barely managed to get that last sentence out.

“Bella, don’t you understand? I left so that you could have a chance at a regular, non-vampire involving life! I didn’t want you hurt because I was here.” he wiped the tears from my eyes.

“I got hurt anyways, even while you weren’t here.” I said, gesturing towards my bandages.

“I noticed, and I’ll forever be sorry for that.” his hand trailed up and down the bandage on my arm. “From the look on your face I’m guessing you have more questions to ask.”

“You guessed right.” I shrugged, instantly regretting moving. “Won’t my scars bug you?”

“Forever, but not for the reasons you may be thinking. They’ll constantly serve as a reminder of my stupidity.” He held me a little tighter.

“But they’ll make me ugly.” I sounded whiny and I knew it.

“You’ll always be beautiful in my eyes no matter what.” He was so composed yet I could tell he was scared out of his mind on the inside.

“Ok, but I have one more question.” I said, and he nodded, waiting. “Do you love me?”

“More than you could possibly know. I love you so much that no words could possibly be used to describe it.” He stared directly into my eyes as he spoke. Slowly, as if giving me a million opportunities to say no he leaned in to kiss me. About five inches from my face he stopped and stared at me, not wanting to scare me away. I couldn’t handle it.

“Dammit Edward! Just kiss me already!” And I closed the space between us. My cuts hurt like hell but I didn’t care, I was in heaven.
