Bella’s POV:

I felt like a stupid human girl all over again.

I was staring at the mirror at my reflection, trying to evaluate my wardrobe choices. Nothing seemed good enough for today. Again, I scoffed at myself.

Since when do you care what you looked like Bella Cullen?! I thought angrily, throwing another shirt onto the ground. Just thinking about him made me smile dazedly.

“Bella, are you ready yet?” Rosalie’s exasperated voice came through the door as she opened it.

“What? Oh, no, I can’t…” I sighed, getting my thoughts straight. “I don’t know what to wear.”

She stared at me for a moment, confused. She had obviously never seen me like this… all girly.

“Well… do you want some help?” She asked almost tentatively. She and I had gotten into a fight last night and had stormed out after some very rude things were said.

“Yes,” I murmured, opening my closet door again. After only a few seconds, she had whipped out an outfit that would be perfect.

“The tank top is green, which will look good with your eyes, and the white collared shirt is simple yet still cute. And these jeans fit you really well,” she smiled.

“Thanks Rose…” I smiled back, glad that we weren’t fighting anymore. Rose and I were really close, even though we argued a lot.

She ran out and ran back in, holding a pair of green flats with white bows on them.

“These match,” she winked. “See you in the car.”

I got dressed quickly, pinning half of my long hair back, and letting the other half wave to my elbows.

Looking back in the window, I almost didn’t recognize the excitement on my face.

“About time,” Emmett groaned in the front seat of my Volvo. It was his turn to drive today and I slid in the back sitting next to Alice, who was grinning at me.

“Stop,” I glared at her. She nodded and looked forward, but her grin was still in place.

By the time we got to the school, my stomach was almost in knots.

I frowned when I didn’t see Edward’s rusty old truck in the parking lot. I took my time getting to class, seeing if he might come in. I sighed and walked in the door, saying goodbye to the rest of the family and started the walk to History.

“Oh Bella, do you mind helping me with this?” Ms. Morgan asked. I looked over and she was standing next to her desk, her arms full with boxes of papers. I walked over and took one of the boxes from her.

“Of course, Ms. Morgan. Where are these going?” I asked. She picked up another box and grabbed her keys.

“I just need to put these in my car; they are the projects that you guys turned in yesterday. I need to take them home so I can grade them,” she smiled. “Thank you for helping dear.”

“Sure,” I said simply. I grabbed another box, knowing I could lift ten times the weight she could lift and followed her out the door.

Once we got outside to the parking lot, I almost dropped the boxes. Edward was coming in at that very moment, and he saw me and did a double take.

Oh for the love of all that’s holy! Did he have to look positively gorgeous?! He looked wonderful, and once he was close enough, he smiled and his blood’s scent wafted towards me. It was like two battering rams at once.

I stood extremely still, careful not to crush the boxes in my arms from anxiety. What was I doing? Why was I allowing myself to get close to this human? What was it about him that made him irresistible to me?!

This entire insane rhetorical argument in my head lasted about ten seconds and by then he was already pulling one of the boxes out of my arms.

“Good morning, Bella,” he smiled a wonderfully crooked smile at me. As I unconsciously filed away the beauty and warmth of his voice, one of his arms brushed my own.

The fire was ignited again, just like last night, except it was better now—now that I knew him—and I bit my lip really hard before smiling back at him.

“Good morning, Edward,” I sighed, turning away from him and following Ms. Morgan to her car. Why? Why? Why?

“Oh, thank you also for helping Edward,” she said before opening the trunk of her old Chevy Tahoe.

“It’s my pleasure, ma’am,” he replied, lowering the box into the trunk, also allowing me a perfect look at his lower back.

I gave myself an internal smack and looked away.

What was happening to me?!
