8. Getting Ready
Rating 5/5 Word Count 1483 Review this Chapter
I awoke Saturday to find that I was still in Edward’s room, but that nobody was in here with me.
I can hardly recall when I got to the Cullen’s house or how I came to be laying here. I remember walking, well; Edward walking through the front door but that was it. I think it was the Saturday before school started, wasn’t something scheduled for today? I was too tired to remember.
I sat up slowly and walked to the door, but I ran strait into Alice, almost falling backward. She was smiling with delight.
“Good night, how did you sleep? Hmmm, that sounds wired, doesn’t it?” she said as she took my hand and walked me to her room.
I struggled to not trip at the pace that she was going.
“What? Well, I slept fine, but what time is it?” I asked her, I was defiantly confused. Oh if I had a dollar for how many times I really was confused………..
“It’s 5:00 at night, silly. You were out for a while. So, what do you want to do first? We have two hours before the dance. I am glad you woke up, I thought I was going to have to do it myself.” She informed me.
Oh, how could I forget? The dance, the one that I was dreading forever, the one that I really didn’t want to go to, forks home coming dance. Ugh, how could they make me go? I looked at Alice, She was in high spirits. As for me, I felt like a nervous wreck. I can’t do dances, I’ll hurt someone. I was opening and closing my mouth, trying to thing of something, something I could say to protest.
Alice looked at me and smiled an understanding smile.
“We will do hair first then.” And she led me into her bathroom.
There was Rosalie, beautiful as always, waiting for me to take a seat. I turned to look around at the door. If I could run past them, down the stairs, out the front door, and hotwire a car I could make a clean get away. I knew it was no use anyways.
“We will just drag you back.” Rosalie threatened, already guessing my plan.
Alice sat me, no, forced me into a low, pink, yet elegant chair. As soon as she did that, they went to work. Rosalie was brushing my hair, while Alice got out hair supplies under her sink.
She got out two types of sprays, some type of liquid gel, and that weird looking yellow stuff that she used last time for the prom. Rosalie and Alice washed my hair in the sink, and then towel dried it vigorously. Rosalie kept on looking at the clock wincing each time she did. Then Rosalie and Alice both grabbed two different sprays and almost used the whole entire two bottles. Then they blow dried it, which took a while. When I dared to look up at the mirror, I shot my head back down to look at my feet.
It was horrible; my hair looked like some type of bush. Alice let out a giggle; she looked like she was having so much fun, the gleaming white smile never left her face.
“You made me look like a mulberry bush.” I accused them. Alice laughed even harder and Rosalie cracked a smile.
“It’s just for the time being, you really didn’t think we are going to leave you like this, do you?” Rosalie asked.
“No, I suppose not, just checking.” I was in no mood for humor, all I could think about is that I was going to make a fool out of myself tonight, and nobody could stop me. I shuddered; I really don’t want to hurt anyone.
I looked up one more time, they were spraying my hair with that yellow spray and putting curlers in it, I said nothing.
Once they had all the curlers up, Alice took me out of the bathroom and into her closet, which was two times the size of her bathroom. I looked around; everything was designer stuff, and the colors that matched perfectly with Alice’s skin. Alice led the way to where four gowns were being hung.
“ok, well, we thought we picked one that looked so cute, but then we saw others, so the only way to decide is to see how they look on you.” She said
Oh, no. I’m Barbie, and there’re playing dress up. I moaned.
“Bella, be nice. Lets start with this one first.” I tried everything on.
Each one looked good, but I had a favorite. It was choice number 2, it was strapless, blue and faded to purple, and it had ruffles that went on the side with a blue satin bow going to the back. The other ones were beautiful as well, but somehow this one did something more for me then the others did.
“Ok, let’s take it to vote. I choose the second.” Rosalie said.
“I do as well.” Alice agreed. I had the fourth one on right now, I examined it in her three sided mirror.
“Bella, which one do you like?” Alice asked me softly.
“Oh, like you don’t know.” I said turning to look at her smiling.
“The second it is!” she said happily. Rosalie and Alice turned to the other wall while I quickly got it on. Then they helped me tie the bow in the back and zipper it up.
“Now the shoes!” Rosalie said happily.
She left for a moment and came back with a pair of Biviano dark blue heals.
“Oh, no. I can’t wear those.” I said taking a step back in horror.
“Why not?” Rosalie demanded to me in a hard voice. Her smile disappeared.
“I will hurt somebody, I will hurt myself. There’s no way-” Alice then cut me off.
“You can wear those, Edward will help you. You wore heals as big as these last spring with a cast on, you can do this. Besides, it’s for Edward; you want to make him happy don’t you?” She encouraged.
“alright.” I sighed.
They quickly put them on me and went back to Alice’s bathroom, which I was almost unable to walk to.
These things were like a weapon of mass destruction, I could hurt so many people with these shoes! I groaned on the inside. They sat me back down in the chair and took the curlers out, letting each of the curls drop behind my back. They put a small amount of makeup on too.
Alice let me stand up. “Well, what do you think?” she asked me.
She and Rosalie were practically jumping up and down with excitement.
“It’s perfect.” I breathed. The girl looking back in the mirror at me looked like she should belong someplace else, not forks. She was very pretty, the color mixing perfectly with her skin, the dress hitting her in all the right places.
“Come on, Edwards waiting!” Alice urged.
My heart fluttered when I knew Edward was down stairs. She took my hand and walked as fast as the shoes would allow me to go. There I saw my angel, my love of my life, looking up at me from the bottom of the stairs.
Imminently after I saw him my eyes never left his face. I didn’t know home coming dances were so formal. Edward had a tux on, and even though I saw him in one before, I couldn’t help but feel like I was dreaming. He was too beautiful. I soon stepped on the last step and made it gracefully on to the first floor; that would be a first.
“You look amazingly beautiful.” He said to me as he wrapped his arm around me, pulling me closer.
“I thought you couldn’t read my mind?” I accused. He kissed me on the lips and carefully pulled back. I smiled at him. I suddenly forgot I was going to a dance.
“Rosalie and Alice, I can’t tell you enough, but, thank you.” He breathed.
“anytime.” Alice said with a giggle.
“Love, we better get going.” He said to me.
I nodded. He took a look down at my feet, wondering why I was walking a little slow. A huge grin appeared on his face.
“That would explain it.” He said chuckling.
“Hey, they made me put them on, it’s not like I had a choice.” I protested.
Edward turned to look at them one more time, “again, thank you.” He said.
Alice simply nodded; I have never seen her smile so big before. Edward lifted me with one arm around my waist, basically supporting all my weight. I think he knew that it would take me days to get to the car by myself. But I was starting to get the hang of it.
“After you.” He said with a smile as he opened the door to his ‘special occasion’ car.
I smiled back at him. He was by my side soon after. He started the engine and we drove off. I had no clue about the horror that was soon to come.
