Chapter Two

Interview With…Three Vampires

Jasper, Emmett and I were all piled in my Volvo, each of us wore our nice polos and freshly pressed khakis. Last week we’d turned our applications in, and yesterday we got a call, asking when we could come in for our interview, and now here we were today, pulling into the unfinished/still gravel parking lot.

“Okay, are you ready,” I asked, smoothing my hair back while Emmett tucked in his shirt and Jasper checked his teeth in the mirror.
“Do you think I look professional.” asked Emmett.

“Oh, definitely,” replied Jasper, his southern drawl still slightly noticeable after all these years. “You look like a professional wrestler.” Emmett laughed and punched Jasper.
“Okay, I don’t mean to break up your play time, but being late for an interview makes a horrible first impression.” I stood up straight and led the way, holding my head high and keeping my eyes straight forward.

As I pulled open the front door, I felt something sticky. Grease. Every revealed surface of this place was covered in grease. I was shuddering already, but I had my stone heart set on our prize. I can do anything I want to with Bella…
I walked up to the counter where a short teenage girl stood. She held the business phone to her ear, but business words weren’t coming out of her mouth.

“Oh my god…seriously? I was going to ask him to the next dance but not now…what a dic-” She stopped talking as she saw us coming in the door, I gave her my biggest grin, and she stared at me for a moment before turning back to the cash register screen with her Mypace account open.

That caught me off guard. As arrogant as it sounds, I wasn’t often ignored like this. Not when I was actually attempting to be friendly. I coughed but she didn’t turn back to us. Her mind didn’t even wander to us. There was just a lot of jumble about a guy I didn’t know. Figures.

I turned to Jasper and Emmett who looked as surprised as I did.

“Hey,” said Jasper, waving his hand at her, she suddenly hung up the phone and closed the internet box, and started typing something up.

“Good one, Jasper,” mumbled Emmett. “So, we’re here for-”

“Will that be all?” she asked, speaking too loudly, which was confusing. The reason, though, came walking through the swinging kitchen door, in the form of a chubby man, not much older than his mid twenties.

“Ah, actually, we’re here for our interviews,” Jasper said, slowly, eyeing the apparent manager.

“So you don’t want those three pizzas?” asked the girl, sounding aggravated as though we’d actually just ordered three pizzas and now we were making her cancel the order. What a pathetic employee…but her acting…I had to give her kudos for that.

“Hi boys, are you the Cullens? Here for the interviews?” asked the manager, ‘Eric’ according to his nametag.

“Yes, sir. I’m Edward and this is Emmett and that’s Jasper.” We shook hands politely and handed him our applications which he skimmed over quickly. I expected him to lead us to an office or somewhere quieter, but instead he lead us to a booth where no one was sitting. The three of us slid in one side, while Eric sat comfortably on the other.

“Sooooo,” he clicked his tongue and continued to look over our applications. “Do you guys know what you’d be doing?”

“Ummm…no…you haven’t really assigned us to anything…or hired us for that matter,” said Emmett.

“Ah yeah…You’re hired. I think that you….Emmett? Would do good with the dishes, and uuuhhh Jasper? You look like a chicken boy to me,” I couldn’t help but snort at that. “And Edward, you’ll be on pizza duty. So, when can you start?”

“As soon as you need us,” I answered confidently. This was going to be too easy. Our week would be over in a snap.

“How about tomorrow? We need people then anyways. I can have Jesyka train you, Edward and Katie can train you, Emmett, and I think Apryl will be manager tomorrow, so she and Katie can help you out , Jasper.”

“Thank you, sir,” we said, shaking his hand again and sliding out of the grease doused bench.
