"Anyway, I'm very proud. Congratulations." Edward praised me after everyone had calmed down.
He did look proud; he was glowing, in fact. I acknowledged him with a hug, ignoring Esme's wails about her precious table, Alice and Jasper attempting to console her (Jasper's influence could be felt around the room- a calm, relaxing feeling), Carlisle just examining the scene and patting Esme soothingly, Emmett's grumbling, and Rosalie giggling about Emmett's wrestling wear. I just concentrated as hard as I could on his amazing angel's face, his windswept bronze hair, his perfect nose, lips, jaw, and finally, the best for last- his deep topaz eyes. I drank it all in, committing his face to memory when he started to shake. I pulled away slightly, surprised. He started chuckling, and it turned to laughter. He couldn't hold it in and pulled away, falling to his knees and pounding the floor.
I was shocked. "What? What's so funny?" He just shook his head, gasping.
"I... don't... know..."
I saw Carlisle approach Edward, helping him to his feet. Edward stopped giggling and took a deep breath.
"That was weird. I just felt... ticklish."
Carlisle started his examination, questioning Edward. I stared as Carlisle, hoping to find some signs of emotion or worry to see if Edward was fine. All of a sudden, he began to laugh. He wrapped his arms around his stomach, trying to hold in the laughter. Esme hurried to help out Carlisle, with a concerned look on her motherly face. I concentrated on her... and she fell laughing. What was wrong with them? I was shocked. I looked away, trying not to intrude on this... awkwardness but the laughter faded away as I did so.
Carlisle regained his dignity and sat up. Taking a breath, he spoke.
"Bella, I have a theory. I think we've just found your ability."
I was confused. "What?"
Edward caught on. "Bella, you're being surprisingly slow today. You can... how can I say this? Tickle people with your mind, I guess."
"WHAT? How useless is that?"
"I don't know, I can think of ways it could be useful..." Edward was thoughtful. "It's a good way to distract enemies. So, not entirely useless on our part." He then smirked. "I'm not really surprised you have this power though... when you were human, you made me laugh a lot with your clumsiness."
"Really? I never noticed," I scoffed.
"I just held it in to be polite."
I narrowed my eyes. I wasn't that clumsy... was I?
Okay, maybe I was. But Edward didn't need to rub it in- this called for a punishment. Maybe I had a use for my power after all...
I threw a sly look at Edward. His expression became confused as I said, "You deserve some suffering for that. Now, how shall I punish you?"
It dawned on him, and he attempted to race upstairs before I caught him. I focused on Edward, and he fell to the ground, clutching his stomach yet again. All other sound was drowned in laughter as I concentrated as hard as I could, even harder than when I was arm wrestling Emmett.
"You know, I've never heard of a vampire dying of laughter, but now I think it might be possible," Carlisle said as Edward's laughter turned nearly to screams of mirth.
"Oh, don't worry. He'll be fine... but I'm going to have lots of fun with my new ability," I answered smugly. Boy, was I going to get my way from now on.
