I sighed.

I wish he would explain every once in a while.

“What does that mean?”

Jacob sighed and dropped my hand to run his fingers through his shaggy black hair.

“You’re my soul mate, Abby. And I’m yours. We’re supposed to be together.”

That was a bit over my head.

I stood, knocking him backwards onto the ground and began to sprint away from him.

Shit shit shit shit shit. My soul mate? Yeah, like I haven’t heard that one before. I barely even knew Jacob.

I heard him calling after me.

“Abby! Abby, please wait. Please. I swear I’ll explain everything. Ask me anything you want and I’ll give you an honest answer. Just please, don’t you leave me too. Please Abby, I swear.”

It sounded like he was crying. I can be cold when I want to, but I can’t take it when someone cries because of something I did.

It’s a good thing I don’t have an evil sibling.

I turned to see him standing several yards behind me.

I was right. He was crying.

He caught up to me and looked like he would beg me on his knees if he had to.

“What do you want to know?” he asked, desperate.

"Why me?” I asked, crossing my arms and leaning so that one hip jutted out.

“I don’t know. I really don’t know. But when I saw you, Abby, my life did a 180 degree flip. You’re all that matters to me right now. If you wanted me to pierce my tongue and dye my hair pink I’d do it in a second. I’ll do anything for you. Anything to make you happy.”

“Anything at all?” I inquired, stretching his limits.

“Yes.” He answered without a heartbeat.

Slowly an plan formed. I walked past him and took his hand, leading him back to his tree.

“What is it?” he called, lacing his fingers through mine.

“ I have an idea.” I returned, looking over my shoulder at him.

He looked overjoyed about something.

“ Did you feel it too?” he questioned, speeding up to walk alongside me.

I assumed he meant the imprinting.

“Yes, kind of, I guess. Everything felt different after I met you.”

Finally we were there.

“Pack up.” I told him.

Jacob looked at me questioningly, but snatched up his bag and began to stuff things into it.

“Oh, and put a shirt on.” I added, as much as I enjoyed the view, my mom would probably be freaked out.

“Do you have shoes?” I asked, sitting on the stump.

He nodded and flopped down, yanking on a pair of socks and beat up hiking boots.

Suddenly, he was by my side, taking my hand snd pulling me to my feet..

“I guess I’m meeting your family?” He rumbled, dropping my hand to slip his arm around my shoulders.

I nodded, welcoming the heat of his body.

“Well, I learned a lot today.” I said and Jacob snorted.

“Did I scare you?” he asked, abruptly solemn. I shrugged.

“Kind of. Not much though.”

“Good. I never want to scare you, Abby. ever..”
