Chapter One: Forgotten

I awoke to his scent, soft and heady, a powerful overwhelming thing. I inhaled deeply, feeling quite content. I didn’t open my eyes-not wanting the perfume I thought was coming off his skin to be but a memory. Where was I? I’d forgotten, but at the same time, I didn’t particularly care. I turned my head slightly, to better take in the scent. A blinding light hit me through my eyelids and I grumbled, trying to will it away.

“Bella?” His breath skimmed my face, another sweet scent gliding with it.

“Mmmm”, I mumbled a reply.

“Are you really awake this time?” The music of his voice made me smile, subconsciously. I took a slow, measured breath, not wanting to startle the moment away.

“No”, I whispered. I peaked one of my eyes open. His face was inches from mine, angelic in the light coming in through my bedroom window. He smiled my favorite crooked grin. I exhaled, slowly again, “Every minute is a dream”. His smile grew, creasing dimples into his cheeks. He pressed his stony, passionate lips against mine. I smiled through the kiss as I wrapped my arms around his granite neck. I didn’t know how long it would be until he decided that he’d tempted my fate enough for now and forced me away from him. Any minute now… Edward and his rules. He pulled away from the kiss, but instead of backing away from me, forcefully but longingly, he just pulled me into an even longer embrace.

“Uhm” I sputtered out.

“Uhm?” he mimicked, confused.

“What is this?” I asked, equally confused but content with the current situation.

“What? I’m not allowed to hold my wife-to-be?” He countered innocently.

“B-b-but…eh, fine…” He released me and locked my gaze to his gorgeous, deep, topaz eyes.

He sighed, “What’s the problem?”

I pouted.

He pouted back, playing the innocence card-no fair!

I huffed, “Well, usually by now you’d be being saying something along the lines of, ‘okay-okay, your luck hasn’t run out yet, but I don’t think we should tempt it’ and why not today?” I tired to sound convincing as Edward always does when he warns me about how dangerous he really is.

He fought back a grin, but lost the battle, “You are terrible at acting, as I’ve told you in the past… and have you forgotten why today would be different?”

I looked up at the ceiling of my bedroom; searching for the answer I knew he was ready to remind me of at any moment, “Erm, it’s Wednesday?” I shot out the first thing that came to mind. I looked back at him, wondering if today being Wednesday really was the answer.

Still grinning widely, he shook his head no. My brow furrowed as I dug through my brain trying to think of anything. I opened my mouth to say something, but quickly dismissed it. I shut my mouth.

He flashed his teeth at me, “It’s Wednesday, August 13th…”

I shrugged. What was the date to me?“…Our wed-ding” Each syllable hit me like a ton of bricks.

I squeezed my eyes shut for a moment and gritted my teeth, “Aw, damn!” I’d forgotten. I tried to look innocent, “Sorry…”

He kissed the top of my head, “Don’t worry yourself, love. But you do need to get up. It’s time to get ready!”
