I woke up settled in Edward’s arms.

“Good morning, my angel.” He said as he buried his face in my hair.

“Good morning.” I whispered back. I snuggled closer into his cold, granite chest. I involuntarily shivered.

“You smell delicious.” He inhaled deeply.

I grinned. “No eating me, okay?”

He ignored my last comment. “I was thinking while you were asleep,” he started, his voice slightly muffled. “And I realized something. You know you have to tell Charlie, right?”

I immediately knew what he was talking about. The smile slipped off of my face. “Why?” I said. “I’ll be dead soon anyways, I guess.”

He raised his head from my hair. “That’s my point.” He said. “I want you to enjoy your last months with Charlie and Renee before I…” He looked depressed. “As you put it, ‘eat’ you.”

“But Charlie will kill you! You know how much he hates you.” I thought back to that memorable day when Edward and I informed Charlie that we were engaged.

Charlie appeared from the living room. He eyed Edward and me holding hands, and a look of disgust flashed across his face.

“What?” He said icily. “I’m watching the game.”

“Um. Edward and I…” I sort of trailed off.

He raised his eyebrows, and fear was painted upon his face. “Bella, you’re not…” He gulped. “Pregnant, are you?” He glared at Edward.

Edward cut in. “No, Bella is not pregnant, Mr. Swan. But we do have to tell you something else.”

Charlie’s face was a mixture of relief and suspicion. “Well?” He looked anxious to get back to the game.

“I have asked Bella for her hand in marriage.” Said Edward smoothly.

Charlie paled. “You… what?”

“Edward asked me if I wanted to marry him.” I had found my voice. I flashed Elizabeth Masen’s ring in Charlie’s direction.

Charlie’s face started to turn an interesting shade of purple. “You may NOT, under ANY circumstances, marry my daughter, Cullen!” he spat.

“Why not, sir?” asked Edward politely.

“You should have seen her when you left her!” roared Charlie. “You caused her so much pain! How do I know that you won’t do it again?!”

For the first time tonight, Edward’s confident air fell. He looked pained. “Mr. Swan, I would never do that to Bella again.” He said. “I love her.”

At those three words, Charlie turned an even deeper purple. ”GET OUT!” He boomed.

Obviously, I broke Charlie down. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be with Edward right now.

“Yes, I know that Charlie will try to kill me,” Said Edward. “But, fact is, he can’t, and it’s not like we aren’t married, or that we’re still in high school. You don’t live with him anymore, you belong to me.” He growled playfully.

“Yeah…” I said. “But still. He’s not going to be very happy.”

“No father is, once he realizes his daughter is grown up. He’ll still have his first grandchild, no matter how short a time.” He was referring to my transformation, and yet he was still grinning. He patted my slightly swollen stomach.

“Hello, little baby.” He said softly. “Do you think Grandpa Charlie will be mad at mommy for having you? Oh, I didn’t think so either.” He smiled crookedly.

I laughed. “Edward, I’m pretty sure that talking to pregnant woman’s stomachs is the first sign of insanity.”

He kissed my stomach. “Damn the insanity.” He whispered, and then kissed me.

“It’ll all be worth it in the end.”
