Mike and I were…typical. We were classic, we were traditional, and we were fighting…again. But this time, it was oh so worse…it was Valentine’s Day.

“See Lauren, it’s so not my fault…” I pleaded with the blonde while she tried on a white mini-skirt with a whit tank top and denim Juicy Couture jacket. It was freaking Valentine’s Day, and I’m sitting at my bff’s house helping her get ready for school and her new boy, Tyler. Yeah, I woke up early in the morning just to get here and help her!

“Mmk, Jess. You want the hard truthful advice, or the sweet fake advice?” Lauren whipped around, her skirt flowing around her gray skin-tight leggings.

“Uh…like, duh, I want the hard and truthful one!” I rolled my eyes and flicking my bangs away from my eyes. Did she think I was stupid or something?

“Snap your fingers,” she instructed. We both rose our arms and snapped our fingers at the same time. “See, did you feel that?”

“Feel what?” I asked bewilderedly. It was her turn to roll her eyes and grimace.

“Duh. Snapping your fingers means your in control. How do you think I got Fluffy to use the litter box? Snap your fingers at Mike. Make him do what you want: be the dominant…compromise is like crap to boys.” Lauren told me as if it were the most obvious point in the world.

“So you’re saying I should just order him around? I don’t think that’ll make him follow me…he’ll just run the other way,” I whined like a little girl.

“Oh stop whining.” She snapped, shutting me up. “He won’t run away if you dangle the string right in front of his face and then yank it away at the last possible second.” She sneered evilly. I felt an answering evil smile envelope my lips.

“Wow, cats and boys are kind of alike, aren’t they?” I asked. She nodded and handed me ‘the special gloss.’

It was working…I couldn’t believe it! Mike was following me around all day---carrying my books, buying me lunch, and telling me he was so happy that I was his girlfriend. It made me feel all melty inside and I put some more special gloss on.

Special gloss was only used on very specialoccasions. Lauren and I went all the way to Seattle once in a while to purchase it since it was so expensive. Special gloss was designed to make your lips absolutely irresistible and tempting. It made them full, but not huge, and pouty, but not curled up. So perfect.

“Mikeyyy,” I used my special flirty voice and laid my hand on his shoulder.

“Yes, Jessica,” he flirted right back.

“Sweetie, where are we going?” I asked, pouting my lips and fluttering my eyelashes.

“You’ll see when we get there, honey,” he grinned, pushing his Suburban to go faster. I sighed and fingered the collar of his rugby shirt.

“You look good in red, muffin,” I told him, earning a small blush to creep up his neck. He was probably wondering where all my confidence had come up from. I probably sucked it all out of him--heaven knows he has enough of it sometimes.

“We’re here!” He told me, causing me to look up.

“Aww, you brought me to the Galleria? That’s so sweet and romantic!” I squealed, kissing him on the cheek.

So we had a candlelit dinner and he bought me a dozen red roses and a box of imported chocolates that came in those cute red hearts. Gosh, I was loving having a boyfriend!

“Thanks for the great night, Mike,” I smiled at him. The porch light flickered above us and he smiled back.

“Happy Valentine’s Day, Jessica.” He grinned, obviously pleased with himself.

“Happy V Day to you too.”

He leaned in slowly, making sure not to hit my nose again like the first time---that hurt. But no, this kiss was so sweet and long, making my fingers tingle slightly. I put my hand through the adorable spikes in his blonde hair, but then he pulled away. I pouted, not even trying to be tempting this time.

“Goodnight, sweet dreams,” he said before leaving me standing there on the porch, light still flickering above me.

“Night!” I called, watching him get into his car. I would have to tell Angela, and Bella, and Lauren, and of course Katie…
