“Oh my God! Carlisle! Come here! Now!” I could hear Edward but I couldn’t see him.

“Edward what happened?!” I didn’t hear Carlisle come in.

“I lost control.” He sounded ashamed and I wanted to comfort him. “Bella, if you can hear me, I am so sorry. This is all you wanted from me and I couldn’t do it.” I wanted to stroke his face to tell him it was okay, but I couldn’t find my voice, or the strength to move my hand.

“Edward? What happened?” Jasper came dashing in, after I screamed. Then, I felt a wave of calm but it didn’t stop the pain.

“I didn’t mean to. I didn’t mean to.” I could hear Edward repeating this to himself over and over again.

“Esme? Alice? Could you come in here? Now?” Carlisle sounded frantic, something wasn’t right.

“What happened?” Esme asked.

“Edward lost control. He bit her.” Carlisle’s voice was grave but I knew he didn’t blame Edward.

“I didn’t mean to. I didn’t mean to.” Edward sounded like he was going crazy. I wanted to touch his face, to let him know I was fine.

But, then I felt the fire.

My eyes opened and I looked around at all of their horrorstruck faces, trying to figure out which one was screaming, then I realized it was my scream that filled the room. Edward was right beside me in a heartbeat. “Shhh, Bella it’s okay. Calm down, it’ll be fine. Just relax. Carlisle, can you get her some morphine or something? Please, Carlisle?”

“Yes of course I can. Alice will you go get my bag?”

“Of course.”

Alice went out of the room and everything went black. It took a little bit of time to realize that my eyes had closed once more. I opened my eyes and then the fire started burning more. I screamed at Carlisle; I screamed at Esme; I screamed at Jasper. I never screamed at Edward, knowing he would feel worse.

I screamed once more begging Carlisle to help me, save me in anyway possible, but I knew the only way to not endure the three days that lie ahead of me I would have to be killed. I never begged for death because I knew Edward wouldn’t allow it anyways. I screamed in absolute pain while the fire burned my throat and chest. It was the worst pain I had ever felt. I was breathless by the time I finally stopped screaming. Rosalie was right, it didn’t help to scream. Then, Alice came back with Carlisle’s bag.

“There, there Bella. It’s okay now. You won’t feel the pain anymore. I promise, Bella.” Carlisle was trying to soothe me and I let him, then he stabbed me with a needle and shot liquid into my bloodstream. After a few seconds my eyelids were drooping and I fell back on the pillow.

“I’m sorry Bella, I’m sorry.” Edward was lying beside me, smoothing my hair, as I drifted into the blackness that overtook me.
