7. Road Trips

Rating 5/5   Word Count 680   Review this Chapter

Road trips are different when you are immortal and can’t sleep. There were so many times I rolled over in my seat ready to fall asleep realizing I can’t. Edward usually laughed at me. “You’ll get used to it, love.”

“I know. I just feel like I should be tired but I’m not. You know?”

“Yeah. That’s how it feels in the beginning. It passes. I promise.”

“Are we almost there?”

“Yes. We are, actually,” I shot up and looked around me. It was too dark to actually see my surroundings but I was so excited I was practically bouncing in my seat.

“Where are we? Come on, Edward, tell me. Please?” all of this came out rather fast and he laughed at me.

“Relax, Bella. I guess you’ll find out when it gets light out again.”

“I can’t wait that long!” by now we had pulled up to this lovely condo-type house.

“I might be able to distract you,” he then leaned over and kissed me. God, I love it when he kisses me. It makes the world feel right again. “How about we go inside?” I couldn’t get my seatbelt off fast enough. He came around the outside of the car and opened my door. When I stepped out of the car I felt sand under my feet. I was extremely confused.

“Edward? Is this…sand?”

“Why, I believe it is.”

“Why is there sand? Wait, are we on a beach?” then I heard the crashing of waves. “We are! We are! You took me to a beach!? Wait,” then I got quiet, “won’t we be found out? You know, sun, sparkles…”

“Bella, this is one of the most remote beaches in the country. There isn’t another soul for at least 90 miles,” I smiled at that. Me and Edward. Alone. No one around for 90 miles. I shuddered.

“Let’s go inside, Edward,” he leaned down and kissed me.

“I couldn’t agree more, love. Before we go in I want to do something.”

“What?”

“This,” he then picked up like they do in the movies and walked across the threshold. When he put me down I got a look at the house.

God, this was one of the prettiest houses I had ever seen. It had natural wood floors and it had off-white walls. It had a little kitchenette in it and it was all one open room. There was an elevated area on which a queen sized bed was sitting. There was one window that faced out to the ocean. I could see waves crashing against the beach from my bed. How awesome is that?!

“Do you like it?” Edward asked me. I looked him straight in the eyes and kissed him.

“I love it,” he kissed me again and then picked up and placed me on the bed. Next thing I knew he was on top of me.

Once it was bright enough outside, we got dressed and walked along the beach. Then, I saw something amazing. I was sparkling. “Edward! Look! I sparkle, too!”

“Did you think you would be left out?” he gave me his crooked smile and rolled his eyes.

“Oh, shut-up,” I lightly pushed him. He wasn’t having that. He picked me up, ignoring my screams, over his shoulder and very carefully walked into the water.

“Edward! Go back! I don’t want to get wet yet!” but, of course he didn’t listen. He “accidentally” fell and then we were both in the water. “Aah! Edward! What did I just say!?

He looked at me sheepishly, “I fell?”

“I’m not buying that.”

“I’m sorry,” then he rolled over and was on top of me. “Can you ever forgive me?” he lightly kissed me.

“Maybe…” I kissed him back.

The rest of the day went a lot like that. It was like a honeymoon-high. We went back into the house around 8 pm. I noticed his eyes were black. “Are you thirsty?”

“Yes. I am. I think it’s time for your first hunt, Bella.”

“Yay?”

He laughed, “That sounds about right,” he grabbed my hand and we raced out into the forest around our house.

Time for the hunt.
