Jasper E. Cullen's POV
I stared at the huge wolves in shock. Jacob Black was obviously among them, yet I couldn't tell which one he was. The obvious leader of the pack growled menacingly. I glanced out at he faces of Aro, Caius, Marcus, Alec, and Jane. On each one except Jane's shock and fear were fully registered on their faces.
Jane was gazing at the wolves peacefully. She was not surprised or afraid at all. It was as if she had expected it. Suddenly, Jane barked at me, "Boy! Translate!"
"Read their minds for God's sake," she screamed at me. I sighed. I didn't know if I could. I hadn't tried, like Alice had.
Taking a deep breath, I pushed into the leader's mind. Hello Jasper. I'm Sam Uley, the alpha. It worked.
"Hi Sam," I said for the sake of manners.
Tell the young female that all we want is to take you home. We will only fight as a last resort. I repeated the message to Jane, who began to look angry. She moved closer to Sam, and stared him full in the face.
"We will fight," she said, pausing menacingly. "And you will all die." I gaped. Didn't she know how outnumbered she was?
Then I remembered her power. That dreadful description had been given to me by my mom and dad. Especially dad, who had experienced it firsthand. I cringed at the thought of seeing someone in that much pain. Terrible.
And then Sam crumpled to the ground, howling in pain. Furious, I ran at Jane. These dogs were trying to save me. The least I could do was help. I jumped on top of her.
Jane swore furiously, the curses sounding strange in her high, childish voice. With a cry she threw me to the ground, her bright red eyes ready to kill me.
And then a large, hairy, russet-brown wolf burst out between the Volturi and the wolves fight. He tackled Jane to the ground, teeth snapping at her neck.
Then all out war burst out. I backed away from my spot on the ground, not wanting to be involved anymore. All I heard was the snapping of teeth and fierce panting.
Suddenly there was someone next to me. It was Jacob Black. wearing nothing but dark blue sweats.
"Come on! We've got to run! Now!" Jacob hissed, pulling me to my feet. We both ran as fast as we could go, Jacob always farther ahead of my by a bit. I ran without thinking, just knowing I was free. Hopefully the wolves would be able to take care of the Volturi, and I would be alright.
Alice R. Cullen's POV
Everyone sat in a circle around the family room. We were holding a vigil for Jasper and the Quileutes. Especially Jasper, and, to me anyway, Jacob. My Jacob. The kiss we had shared was....wow. I had felt so high afterwards, my mother had to carry me downstairs. Oh Jake.......
I had to break this sick tension. "So, Lauren," I siad nonchalantly. She looked up at me from my position across from me on the floor. "How is it you came to be a vampire?"
She looked at me, shock flickering on her face. Then she began, "Well, it was a few weeks after graduation. I was hiking in Italy for summer break. I saw this really little girl and she looked like she was lost. Actually, she was that Jane who came here."
"What?! What did she do?" I asked.
"She did....something. It was the worst pain I had ever felt, and I was shaking like mad. I fell on some super sharp rocks," she said. I saw her wince slightly. She was reminiscing the pain. Ouch.
"I thought I was about to die. That's when I saw Alice and Jasper." She glanced over at my godparents in gratitude. "I was unconscious for a long time, but when I woke up, they were gone. It didn't take me a long time to figure out what I was. Just a little research," Lauren said, and shrugged.
"So these many years later I happen to stumble across them while hunting in Alaska." Her red eyes glittered. "And they recongnized me and I showed them my power. And then they bring me here." She gestured around the room. "Telling me they could find me a coven, and I don't get one."
"I had a vision, like I said. I knew Jasper was in danger, so I made a pit-stop to find a sufficient trade. Guess It wasn't good enough," Alice explained. She turned to face Lauren. "I'm sorry I couldn't find you a coven. But I don't think you should get involved with the Volturi. You're-er, welcome to stay with us." She grinned halfheartedly at Lauren.
"Well, I've kind of been drinking human blood for a long time, if you haven't noticed," she said, looking affectionaltely at us. Maybe she would stay after all.
"It is a little hard at first. But it builds character," Jasper said lightly. We all nodded. I had recently learned of his history with a newborn army.
"Hm. I guess I could try it," she said. My mother leaned over to hug her.
"By the way, let me introduce you to my adopted daughter Alice Cullen," my mom said. I smiled and waved lightly. This was good. We were not thinking of Jasper. I wanted my brother bakc. Now.
I zoned out as Lauren talked with everyone. I hated not knowing. Whether Jasper was alive. And Jacob. Always Jacob. My soul mate forever. God, I hoped he was okay. At this point, I couldn't live without him.
Jasper E. Cullen's POV
We quickly ran through the woods, getting closer and closer to home. Jacob ran next to me, going faster and faster. Faster then I was. It all happened very quickly then.
A vampire, Aro, I recognized, sprung out from nowhere, jumping on Jacob and pinning him down. Faster than I could believe, he leaned down and bit Jacob. He cried out in pain, but the pain was cut short. Aro's hands were around his neck. Then nothing. NO!
I roared and flew at Aro. I pinned him down, still growling. I felt so angry! With fire in my heart, I tore him to pieces, pushing them into a pile. I threw the lighter I always carried on top of it, and watched my enemy go up in flames, not really realizing what I had done. I crawled over to Jacob. A pulse. He was alive. Barely.
"Jacob?" I whispered. Nothing. Blindly, I grabbed my lighter, picked up Jacob, and ran home.
I was met with crys of joy, then confusion as I drew closer. I carefully laid Jacob's body to the ground, and backed away. My sister was there first.
"Jake? Jacob? NO JAKE!!!!!!!!!" she yelled, her voice in so much pain that I winced. She leaned down and kissed him fiercely with no response. She yelled and sobbed dryly and kissed him for a long time. Giving up, she curled into a ball under him arm, trembling.
I watched in silence as the rest came in. I closed my eyes as my mother drew near. "I killed Aro," I muttered. What I had done was sinking in. I was a murderer. Everyone's head turned toward me. I ran to my room. Jacob had gotten nearly killed because of me. And now Alice would be so depressed.
Alice R. Cullen's POV
I was as good as dead. I saw nothing, heard nothing. All I knew was Jacob, dead next to me. The love of my life. Gone. Forever. IT was then I heard a loud, ear piercing noise. Someone was screaming. I realized it was me.I felt myself being lifted into cold arms. I fell back to the ground. And the stone arms were Emmet's trying to get me to stop.
But I didn't. I screamed and cried and kicked. I heard someone yell, "HE'S NOT DEAD SO SHUT UP!" I recognized the voice as Quil Ateara's, a member of the pack I had met briefly. I opened my eyes and looked around me. Dad was leaning over Jacob, doing something to his neck. Mom was there too, looking on anxiously.
"He's not dead?" I choked unwillingly. A dozen people shook their heads. I looked down at my love Jacob. His chest was indeed rising and falling. I saw my dad sucking out of the cut in his neck and spitting a mixture of blood and venom out of his mouth. That son of a bitch. Aro had bit him. God, I was glad Jasper killed him.
Jacob's eyes flickered open. I sobbed in relief. "Jake? Jake?" I leaned down to whisper in his ear. "I love you Jacob Black. I love you forever." He opened his eyes in wonder. I watched him slowly sit up and look at me in awe. He leaned forward, pressing his forehead against mine. His eyes met mine and bored into them intensely.
"I love you Alice Cullen," he whispered. He pressed his lips to mine softly. I pressed against his lovingly. He was alive, and I vowed that every minute of it I would be with him.
Aunt Alice squealed as we pulled apart. "What?" I said, sounding again like I was high on crack. Or rather, Jacob Black.
"Looks like we have a wedding to plan!" She said excitedly. I gazed around at everyone, my eyes stopping at the Quileutes. The faces of my future brothers.
