David carried me back to where the Cullens and William were waiting. When we got there everyone looked surprised and happy that I was still alive. I looked around the clearing confused to why they seemed so surprised. My eyes landed on a pile of ashes. Only one.

“David, why-uh-what happened back here?” I asked timidly. I searched his face for any emotion, but he was stiff and wouldn’t let anything show.

“Michel got away,” David said plainly. My eyes automatically shifted to William who’s eyes were on the ground guiltily. “I after we took care of Leonardo I rushed into the forest to find you.” David’s voice held no emotion and William looked away from the ground and towards my face. His expression was full of guilt and sorrow. He was obviously guilty for letting Michel escape. But who could of fought both Leonardo and Michel?

“We should get back,” Carlisle said. “We aren’t incredibly far from Forks so we can run back.” David lifted me up onto his back. I noticed that William was walking in the opposite direction.

Before I had the chance to speak, William said, “I’m heading up to Denali. I’m going to try out being a vegetarian.” I flashed him an approving smile and he smiled back before running off into the forest. I tried to look after him but he was gone. We started to run then. I clutched onto David for dear life. We it seemed like I couldn’t take it anymore, we stopped in front of the huge white house. Edward ran off to Bella’s house and the Cullens went to do whatever they do at night. They left David and I alone outside.

“Why don’t we go inside?” David said. He started to head for the door way. I quickly grabbed his hand and pulled him back.

“David, we need to talk about something,” I said nervously. He looked at me and he got a worried expression on his face.

“What is it, Reese?” he asked quietly.

I took a deep breath. “The events of the past week have made me…reconsider my current way of living.” David’s eyes widened in shock.

“You’re going to leave-?”

“NO!” I yelled. “I’m talking about immorality!”

“Oh…” David looked deep in thought. “That is a good question…I thought you didn’t want to be changed.”

“I didn’t but…I will die someday. And when I do, I know that you will be devastated. I don’t want to do that to you.”

“I don’t want you to regret anything. If I changed you, there’s no going back,” David warned.

“I know but…I think it’s for the best.” What did I get myself into? I’m now have a conflict that may have no real happy ending. I don’t really want to be a vampire, but I would take the fate with out a second thought if it would make David happy.

“Can we wait a little while? I’m still a year older then you. Can we wait until we are the same age?” David asked. “In the meantime you can attend school and graduate. I wouldn’t want you to be a high school dropout,” David joked. I chuckled a little.

“Anything for you,” I said. He nodded and kissed me lightly.

“Why don’t we go inside? Michel could be anywhere,” David said, sneering at the mention of Michel’s name. I shuddered. I almost forgot all about Michel. And…William! What if he goes after William, too! He has no family to back him up. But the other vampires at Denali would surely help him. STOP IT REESE! William is a vampire and can take care of himself. That thought calmed me down. David led me inside and I sat down on the couch.

“So when do I start school?” I asked playfully.

“What?! That early?”

“You would be bored stiff hanging around here. Everyone will be at school. You’re just lucky that we came here during a break.”

“But I have no clothes!”

“Alice took care of that.” I ran out of excuses.

“Fine…Will you be attending school?”

“Yes. I’m going to be a senior and so are you.” I yawned involuntarily. “And it’s time for you to sleep.” I laid down on the couch and David bought a blanket over.

“Good night,” he whispered.

“‘Night,” I whispered back. I closed my eyes and let sleep take me.
