2. Chapter 2

It was two weeks before winter break. Every one was anxious for the day to come when they would be free. Free for eight measly days at least. It bugged me how the school administration cut down our vacations to the are minimums.

The morning started out as any other and I was already counting down the minutes until I heard the bell that signaled the end of school and the start of after school sports, or in my case Track. I was in my own little world thinking of a work out that we may do when I bumped into something hard. I came out of my daze to see two gold eyes staring at me. The face that surrounded them was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. It took me a minute to stop gaping and mumble my apologies before stepping around him to walk really fast to class.

I walked into my first period class, which was math, and sat down in my seat, trying not to relive the encounter I just had. How embarrassing it was! I just stood there gawking at him! I leaned back in my seat, playing a song in my head in an attempt to forget the experience.

“Hello, I’m David and I believe this is my first period class,” I heard a velvety voice say. I looked over to the front of the room to see where it came from. To my complete horror it was the gold eyed wonder I just made a fool out of myself in front of. I sank in my seat, hoping that we wouldn’t see me. Just about every other girl in the room was doing the exact opposite. The fluffed their hair and straitened out their shirts. Through my mortification I let out a snicker. A lot of their attempts just made them look worse.

“Oh yes. You are the new kid, right?” the teacher responded. “You can sit in the seat next to Reese. She’s the one with the red hair.”
Oh God…I was modified. Who knows what else I would do to humiliate myself!

He sat down next to me and a delicious smell came with him. I leaned over my desk to let my hair fall over my face to cover the dumbfounded look that came across it. I could swear that I heard a snicker. My face turned beat red.

Worksheets were being passed out and I took mine gratefully, anything to distract me. I scanned the front and back of it. It was all basic knowledge. Common sense. Then Ms. Doolittle (yes that is her real name) announced that it was to be done in partners. I had to friends in that class so I went to work on it my self. I tucked my hair behind my ear and started to answer the problems quickly and easily.

“Hi, my name is David.” I knew who talked but I was afraid to confirm it. But to prevent another degradation I gathered up enough courage to respond.

“Hey, I’m Reese.”

I woke up from my dream then, remembering the first day we met. I laughed at how immature I acted. David noticed that I was awake. He gave me a dazzling smile that seemed to light up the car. It was morning, the sun shining, but his tinted windows only let the least bit of light in. My heart fluttered like it usually did when he smiled. He grinned.

“What’s so funny?” He asked curiously.

“I had a dream about the first day we met.”

“And how was that funny?” he asked playfully.

“I was so embarrassed being around you, but I guess that uneasiness dissolved once you talked to me.” I never really got why he did talk to me even though I was told over and over again. “Why did you anyway?”

I rolled his eyes before continuing. “Well, you made me curious.”

“Every other girl was trying to show off to me but you were hiding. I had to find out why. You proved to be a more interesting character than all the other humans I met. And a lot prettier too.” He waited for my expected shade of red to cover my face and chuckled. I heard all of this before, but it still unraveled me. Suddenly a thought hit me. A realization that I unbelievably didn’t think of before.

“What about my family?”

“My family. What’s going to happen with them now.” We just left. They had no idea what happened to me. For all they knew I could of joined the circus.

“I’m not quite sure about that. I think it depends on what happens. I don’t want to worry you, but if this turns out badly then they might have to think that you are dead or missing.” He quickly looked over to me to see my reaction. I nodded with understanding and sorrow. I didn’t want to leave my family but it may be the only solution. Or the only solution that kept David in my life.

“Are you all right?” His face was sketched with worry.

“I’m fine.” He still didn’t look convinced. “Believe me.” I smiled at him. He smiled back and concentrated on the road again. I ran my hand through my hair and it took a while to get it out again. I rummaged through the compartment in the dashboard for a comb that I kept I there. Once finding it I went to work on the bush that enveloped my head.

It didn’t take long for us to enter a small town. David slowed his car down considerably and I appreciated the few moments of normal driving. But as soon as we entered a turn off into the forest he speeded up again. I gripped the seat for support. In a few moments we were in front of a large white house. My mouthed gaped at the seer size of it. David got out of the car and before I could blink he opened my door and helped me out . We walked human speed to the door. He knocked quickly and I stepped in closer to David, clutching the end of his shirt. The door opened to reveal a blonde vampire standing in front of six others.
