I just stared, completely frozen with fear. I was on the ground with my sunglasses fallen off, he was standing up. An impossible situation.

“If you scream, you die,” he muttered quietly so that the vampires outside wouldn’t hear.

“If I go with you I die anyway.” I couldn’t help blurt out my comment, but it was ignored. As I finished talking, a fight started outside. Michel took this as an opportunity to whistle. Another vampire jumped through the window and I idiotically made eye contact with him.
Don’t move…Don’t make a sound…

It took me a second to realize that I was hypnotized. I complied, staying on the floor as limp as a doll. But in the back of my mind there was a voice. It was screaming for me to get up and yell for David. It was screaming for me to break the hypnosis. To do anything but just lay there. I wanted to listen. I wanted to really bad. But my mind was hazed over and I couldn’t think. I tried to beat back that haze. Make it disappear. I tried, but I couldn’t.

Michel was walking to me. He made a comment to the other vampire.

“Too bad. I’m disappointed. I expected it to be harder then this.” I was instantly filled with anger. How dare he make my death seem easy, myself hardly worth killing. I was defiantly worth killing! Wait…ugg, just never mind that last comment. I tried ten times harder to show him up. To show him that I was not weak. I tried, tried very hard. I beat it back with all my might. I only focused on that. Only focused on the cloud. Only focused on making it retreat. Retreat back to Leonardo. Retreat form my mind where it would never be welcome again. The cloud started to disappear. It started to fade. I could almost think clearly. Then…The cloud was gone.

Michel leaned down next to me, probably to kill me or pick me up so he can kill me somewhere else. He was moving slowly, savoring his victory. The vampire next to him had a strange look on his face.

“Michel…my hypnosis feels…weak.” He looked worried. Michel stood up at looked at him.

“I bet it’s because it didn’t take a lot to hypnotize her, Leonardo. I don’t know why David fell for such a weak human.” That made me snap. I was not weak. I would prove it to him. I got up and lunged at him. Both the vampires’ faces were full of shock and confusion. Leonardo looked mightily frustrated. I knew my attack didn’t have any effect of Michel, but it sent a surge of pride through me. Michel, after a few seconds, regained his composure and pinned me down.

“Weak?” Leonardo joked.

“Why don’t you just-” The fight stopped outside. “We have to go.” Michel covered my mouth so that I couldn’t scream and picked me up. They jumped through the window and ran.

“We’d better do something about her,” Leonardo said pointing in my direction.

“Try hypnotizing her again.” Leonardo concentrated very hard on something. I blocked the hypnosis easily since I did it before. My face probably looked very smug.

“Why did we have to go after her anyway?” Leonardo asked, defeated.

“Revenge. Revenge for killing Frederic. Revenge for deserting us. We were once powerful. But now…we are no match for any clan… except the Cullens of course.” Michel chuckled at this last part and took his hand off my mouth to smooth down his hair. I spit in his face. As childish as it may seem, it felt really good. Michel didn’t looked amused. In fact, he looked really angry. The last thing I saw before going unconscious was Michel’s hand flying towards my head.
