I sighed as I flopped back on my large, squishy sofa. I had just gotten back from hunting, which was how I spent most of my time. Then, I popped in an old DVD from long ago and watched the characters move around on the screen, not actually paying attention to what actually happened. Pausing the DVD I pulled out my sketch book and began doodling. In time, a body appeared then a head and a face. When I realized it was Kimmy, my old sister, I dropped the sketchbook and groaned, old memories burning into my brain. I had made my life so that I wouldn’t forget that I could be happy, even if it was making me miserable now. I didn’t care, I felt like I deserved the pain.

I hadn’t seen another person, human or vampire, in almost 10 years. I was desperately lonely, which is why a knock on my door made me jump. Someone is visiting me? Here? In the frozen tundra of Northern Russia?

I glanced down, making sure I had remembered the essentials, like clothing, before hurrying to the door. I hesitated with my hand on the knob. The Voltouri couldn’t be mad at me, could they? Who else would it be? Some random human?

I very slowly pulled the door open, and there he was, Edward, my one true love. His eyes widened and he pulled me into a hug.

“Bella,” he muttered, sounding relieved. “I finally found you. I love you.”

Everything fell into place, then. Edward loved me. He’d come to find me. He’d always loved me. Suddenly all the things people had tried to tell me made sense. He’d left to protect me. It was true. I collapsed into his arms, letting him support me as he took me back to the couch.

“I’m sorry I came,” he said, looking down sadly. “I just- when I realized who you were, I had to find you. But I’ll leave if you want.”

“No!” I cried. My voice cracked because it was underused. I hadn’t spoken to anyone in a while. “Why do you have to leave?”

“You don’t want me to leave?” Edward wrinkled his brow, confused. “But then, why did you leave?”

“I thought that you didn’t love me, Bella. You left Bella but seemed to love Abi, so when you found out, I had to leave so you wouldn’t leave me again.”

Edward stared at me. “I’ll never understand you. That doesn’t make any sense at all. Like giving a burglar your money so he doesn’t steal it. I loved you as Abi because you were just like Bella. I only found out after you left, when I asked that dog what happened to you. What’s the point of leaving me so I can’t leave you?”

I backed up. “If you didn’t find out at prom, why did you look so angry?”

He looked down sheepishly. “He thought you looked hot. That was what made me mad.”

“So you weren’t mad at me?” I asked incredulously.

“Of course not, I love you! I love you more than anyone and anything! I’m really sorry I left you so long ago. You know I was only trying to protect you, right? The only question now is, will you take me back?” He stared at me with pleading eyes. He was actually worried that I’d say no.

“I laughed. “Of course I’ll take you back! Who wouldn’t?” I tackled him and planted a kiss on his lips. “I love you and I always will!”
